While i am awaiting my parts to arrive, i want you all to see the process of how exactly i am going to be wrapping this portable in carbon fiber.

Brief tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAdVO8Rkv6c

Site for materials: http://www.carbonmods.co.uk
 I might just try this! Only 46 bucks (I assume shipping isn't too bad). wow. Great find Raizer04!

EDIT: well 56 bucks (40 + 16 shipping). Still not too bad IMO

i think that would work pretty good. its already made to sit over a slimline laser drive, so if you just cut it to size and cement it to the back of the case it should be pretty sweet!!

go with the 7808. that 7805 mod does work, but it gets crazy hot, just use a 7808 and be done with it, lol

All you need is a 7805 and two resistors to make a regulator that outputs 8v, there is a guide in Mario's instructable on portablizing.

I think they do the same thing but 7808s have a lot of heat coming off them.

A 78xx series regulator is inefficient, as in it loses some of the power you put into it and converts it into heat.

A switching regulator produces almost no heat really and requires only two extra components in the case of the PTH series.

However, the PTH series has a max output voltage of 5.5v, so it is useless to you.

Not too much up on the hardware you are working with, can't comment on your question - just wanted to say that this thing is looking pretty neat.

Good work man.
