will the PSP automatically stop charging like it would with a normal charger? wouldn't want to be blowing up batteries.

The batteries have an internal protection pcb, they shut off at the right time to any power source.

Yes, it works just like the regular charger EXCEPT it does mean that whenever you connect to USB, you are charging. If you constantly charge a battery without draining it, it can shorten the battery life.

not with these, they're lithium ion and aren't susceptible to the "memory effect" of Nickel Cadmium batteries. For best lithium ion life it is recommended to store the batteries in as cool of a place as possible (obviously staying away from moisture, don't stick it in the fridge in other words) and keep it at about half charge. It doesn't really matter though, lithium ion batteries last a damn long time even when used a lot. I've had my cell phone for 5 years and its on 24/7 and I charge it when it gets to about 50% and it has never shortened the battery life in the least. I even changed the battery recently thinking the old one was getting lower (I was using the phone more frequently and it seemed to be running out faster), but when I changed it, it still lasted about the same amount of time. In other words, run it down, charge it up, do whatever you feel like, your PSP batteries will probably be good for as long as you still use it (since most will ditch it when the next cool moddable handheld comes out).
