Don't you have a desoldering iron? Those things can desolder 30 holes a minute if you're good!

desoldering braid worked best for me on an old N64 i had laying around, just rub some flux on the leads first that helps a little also.

I think the GameCube Micro is better. And the Revolution would make no sense, because a miniature GameCube isn't that "revolutionary".

The nearest hardware store which sells desoldering irons is about 10 mile away, (a long way with no car) and they sell them for Â£50.

I bought a solder sucker and a soldering iron for much less than that.

Recommend any online stores?

braid doesn't get the crap out the holes.

Yeah UK. No idea if there's a Radio Shack, but I haven't got one local if UK does have Radio Shack...

$7.95!!! That's like Â£4! You couldn't get a soldering iron for Â£4 here, let alone a desoldering iron. My soldering iron cost around Â£15, and even that is a rip off for something that heats things up. Even replacement tips cost Â£4 for 3.

How's the progress? Can you post pictures of what it looks like now?

And I checked my local Radio Shack and they have soldering irons and desoldering irons for a little over $10.

No progress, I'm still desoldering these holes. They're too small for any kind of real sucking.

No RadioShack in the UK.

Yes, and Maplins don't have desoldering irons, they have desoldering pumps, one of which I bought from Maplin and was pretty expensive. Still not doing the trick though..

2 more holes left that wont desolder... a few that still have a little solder blockage preventing wire going through it.

EDIT: Started soldering in wires.. It's a big puzzle. I accidently ripped up another trace on the DVD unit so I need to find an alternative source to solder it to now.

Well, if you're having trouble with the original PCB, you could print your own. It would be a pain, but it would also let you cut down on size quite a bit.

Building my own PCB would require me to desolder all the original components along with CPU / GPU, map the original PCB, resize it, and then build it, and then solder the components back on.

It's a near impossible task to do.

About 15 holes left.. I had to undo it all because I realised I was 1 pin out each time. I'm glad I decided to double check when I finished soldering.
