thanks
. a lot more work than simply buying a project box....
. I used 3/32 inch plastic and it was a bit too thin....I can live with it, though
. also, I'll try to have the clay mold a bit smoother.....
another update on the GCp: I made the screw posts, glued 'em in, so now the back plate isn't held on by tape, but by screws
. also, I cut the hole for the controller board
. basically, as soon as I get my batteries in, I can finish it
.
well, it was tough, yet still fundkap01 wrote:How did you like making you first vacuum case?
On my next portable (aside from the N64p4 and Sega Nomad SP) I'll probably try vacuum forming again, only this time with thicker plasticdkap01 wrote:Are you going to vacuum form the rest of the portables you make for now on?

well if i ever get a second cube (and dubble dash) i would do a franken box... yes sad to say i would defile a new console with a franken box... but lucky for me i have a great idea of what i'd do to it...
i would relocate the dvd drive (hard i know) and put it in the top half of the case mounted just above the bottom half (so i can get the lan adapter, and gba player) then i would take ither half of a cube controler and put the back grips on the bottom half next to the case part (not to cover the ports for the gba player and lan) then i would take the screen and place it on the top half of the case (cube screen for better fit) then just below the screen on the other side of the bottom half (processer and junk) i would have the controls and battrys.

actually, I consider it to have a great size for the GC
......the reason I say that is because while the face is pretty big, the thickness is great
. Only about 1.5 inches
......so in the end it all balances out to be a relatively small case for a sytem that's got a lot of circuit boards inside (power board, controller board, mb, disc drive, plus all the rest of the components)
anyway, getting all the components to fit inside the case I have was tough, and I'm proud of the size
........I mean, why else would it take me around 8 whole months to finish it? (well, I suppose a big chunk of that time wasn't really spent working on the GCp, and then there was the whole controller modding incident....*shudders*........)
anyway, glad you like it
also, if enough people are interested, I think I might just have to start on writing a guide
. but would you rather have one that says how to build one exactly like mine, or would you rather have a general guide on GCp building? the latter would definitely be easier to write, but I'll let the people decide on what GCp how-to they want
(if they want one, that is
)!!!!!!
I could include stuff like how to rewire power, modding your controller, and removing ports
, along with other mods like the psone screen led mod
.
btw, on Saturday my batteries should come in (if not sooner....) so after I'm done putting 'em in look for a huge review on the GCp and it's many amazing features
!!!!! I'll be sure to put up plenty of pics, and maybe even a link to a movie of me playing it
.....

. here's the back plate (once again, enjoy
):
the reason the controller board isn't in the case yet is because I haven't had time to cut the hole in the back plate yet for it....also, I plan on making a cover for the disc drive, although this will hinder the GCp's use as a hypnotizer and a pizza cutter....also, I'll clean up the back when I'm completely finished
and that thing which my burnt and scarred fingers are covering is the fan.....it has to protrude a bit because the case isn't big enough to have the whole thing inside....since it's partly outside I don't have to cut any holes on the side to allow air in, though.

thanks
....it looks even better now that I've cleaned it up a little and actually put in the controller board rather than having it just sticking out
.
can't wait to get my batteries so I can actually completely finish it

Well as soon as your done with your GCp and finished playing any game for it you have, maybe you can see about writing a howto or just a simple guide (like the ones Ben makes). Great job and its must be a reliefe to not have to spend more money on controllers/

yeah, I hated modding those damn things...I'm so relieved I don't have to deal with them anymore........although it's really more of a relief that it's pretty much done, and after Saturday I can finally begin pursuing other goals(like other portables
)....
and it seems very likely that I'll be making a guide on it
.......it also seems very likely that you'll have to pay for it
!!!!!!!!.......just kidding about that last part

yeah, that would be pretty sweet
. I may also have to repaint the whole thing white before I do that as there are a few spots which won't come off
. Later today (after it is COMPLETELY finished
) I'll take a pic and do a bit of work in paint to see what would look best
.
