ever heard of fake? how about curved? maybe it's a trick of light or lens--who knows what they believe, but obviously it has something to do with them being lied to.daguuy wrote:ever seen a photo of earth from spaceReaperman@home wrote:Even fewer of us have been high enough in the air to see it for ourselves
why do your believe it's round? did somebody tell you it was or show you a picture? It is curious that we can move around it as if it were a sphere, but perhaps they have another explaination. From what my two eyes have actually seen, the earth is curved, but I cannot confirm that it is or is not round. Everything I've seen suggests that it's round, but I'm hardly enough of an expert in the field to give you a positive answer.

How about the earth being dark on one side, and bright on the other? For example, it's 4:36PM in MN right now, and 10:36PM in the UK. It's nice and sunny here, and dark there. It's kind of like if you shine a light on a ball. it's bright on that side, but not as much on the other.

now were discussing whether earth is round or not, this is hilarious
.
anywho, back to earth being round... gravity pulls everything together, even planets. gravity pulls all parts of the world together and has been doing so for 4 billion years. what happens when a bunch of stuff is packed as tight together as i can? it forms a ball. there aren't any corners because gravity pulled everything as close to the center as possible. if it were a curved plane, gravity would make it collapse into a ball. if it were flat (can't imagine how it would get that way), gravity would crush it together into a ball because a flat surface doesn't have much support in the middle to keep it's shape. if it was a tube or something, gravity would pull on the protruding ends to bring them the same distance from the core as the rest of the surface. and if it weren't a ball, what would contain the magma?

The light travels just as we can, and it suggests the earth is a sphere.
daguuy> if we don't understand the basics, we certainly can't prove gravity's true
and 4 billion years...it sounds like you've been talking to some of those teachers again, haven't you? neither you nor your teachers have been around nearly long enough to have anything but "evidence" of that number, and for that matter your only observations of gravity and its nature have been upon this "planet" that you're not even sure is round or not *lol*
I've always personally wondered exactly why gravity happens. why does mass attract?
and just for fun, I'm going to their site and seeing what these information-age flat-earthers have to say for themselves.
edit: what a great site. question science! I've always thought global warming was a conspiracy theory (with little connection to reality) designed to make the rich feel bad about themselves and the stupid to feel good about themselves. I think that's my new forum idea.
