yes, and that's what I did for my GCp :P....basically, the smallest possible thickness your gonna get the GC is about 2 inches...

well yes, but you'd have to replace it with another one....I'd suggest keeping it on there, because the disc drive board's input port is about the same height as the heatsink, so unless your gonna rewire the disc drive, you won't be saving too much space
