the GCN discs are pretty proprietary... they even burn the discs from the outside-in. I wouldn't be surprised if the data is in a different area on the disc as well (e.g.: normal cd data is right under the label, but the GCN could be between the bottom and middle) and the laser focus would be different.

The reason we believe the GameCube discs are mini dvds are they hold 1.5 gb. The retail mini dvd-r have ~1.5 gb, besides its cheaper to use public technology then have a proprietary disc.

And the saturn for those of you out there that say is sucked must not know that the saturn was a big hit in Japan. Besides all you have to do to play imports on it is get the cartage for that purpose (no mod chip, no bs). If I had the money I'd do it myself (or dreamcast).

Here's the thing though, if it WAS a mini DVD, wouldn't there be all sorts of hacks/cracks to get pirate games for your GCN like they have for Xbox and PS2? To my knowledge there aren't any, further supporting the proprietary non-DVD idea. SpongeBuell brings up some good points too.

Yeah, they're very proprietary, but I'm just saying that its easier to call it a dvd drive than an optical disc drive.

The GameCube disks ARE Mini-DVD's that hold 1.8 Gb, but it is true that the info is in a different format than any other one, and here in México there are pirate games, but they can be played not through a Modchip, they need a "Emulator Disk" like the Dreamcast ones.

Actually you aslo know this not a GameCube or Saturn if you look at this.

http://www.classicgaming.com/vcsp/

Go To the MGDp Article and look at what Ben says here:
"Well, much like another portable I'm developing, the sliding tray can go!"

Last I checked the GameCube and Saturn didn't have a sliding tray.... 8)

So what that narrows it down to the PS2 or the Xbox.... Well as ben also describe the xbox as an SUV I doubt he'd try to portablize a computer in gaming console clothing, as well he already has a COMPUTERp.

That's right... he asked someone for the RGB points in what I think was a PSX screen.

Ben told me a while ago what he was working on, but instructed me to keep it TOP SECRET. So, if you want to know, send me a Snickers bar.

But seriously, though your gusses are good, I don't think you have achieved "Ben Zen". He would not necessarily think that that the best system to portablize would be the newest. It might behoove you to find a list on the net of every single system ever made, remove the ones he's already done, and make a poll out of that. Maybe even throw in the NeoGeo and Pong arcades, just for safe measure.

Then again, Ben could have told me to blow smoke in your beehives and throw everyone off track. But I will tell you this, if Ben succeeds, I'm definitely going to beg him to make an extra case so I can make one of my own.

Abbib, come on that was a poor diversion the thread/poll was poasted by ben himself so it has to be one of the four.

Narrowing down every system ever made? Yeesh... I don't think it's possible to have a list. Maybe something smaller like this, the more important (and of course, programmable) ones?

Commodore 64 (1982)
Apple II ( xx )
Microsoft Xbox (2001)
Nintendo GameCube (2001)
Sega Dreamcast (1999)
Sony PlayStation 2 (2000)
Nintendo 64 [DD] (1996)
Atari Jaguar (1993)
3DO (1993)
Sega Saturn (1995)
Sony PlayStation (1995)
Nintendo Virtual Boy (1994)
TurboGrafx 16 [CD] [TurboDuo] (1989)
Sega Genesis [CD] [32X] (1989)
Neo-Geo [64] [CD] (1989)
Super Nintendo Entertainment System (1991)
Atari 7800 (1987)
Sega Master System (1986)
Nintendo Entertainment System (1985)
Colecovision (1982)
Vectrex (1982)
Atari 5200 [400] [800] (1982)
Atari 2600 VCS (1977)
Odyssey^2 (1978)
Arcadia 2001 (1981)
Astrocade (1977)
Intellivision (1980)
Odyssey (1972)
RCA Studio II (1976)
Channel F (1976)
TELE-SPIEL ES-2201 (okay, I'm kidding) (1975)

Of course, I may just have removed the one he is doing... ARGH! Mind games!!!
