I wouldn't spend more than $150 on a video card for it, since your processor will be a bottleneck for anything much newer. (Plus you can get a barebones PC kit that will tear circles around your P4 for less than $400. I've put together a Q9550 / GTX 260 based build for under $750, minus a hard drive and case.)
Unfortunately, it's impossible to recommend upgrades without knowing what you're working with. Please post the make and model. (For example, Dell Dimension XXXX or Compaq DeskPro EN.)
While you're ordering stuff, get some more RAM. Not only for games, but it will help everyday stuff too. Today, 1 gig is a minimum. Luckily, DDR2 is dirt cheap these days.
But like i said, that 2.0 ghz P4 is gonna chug like hell in 32 player matches, but that's about the same as my lappy so it should be playable.
If you want to explore that option, we can throw together some sample parts builds for you.
Oh please, we got this free. Runs like total crap, I'm well aware we have a crappy PC. As I said before, the main use of this computer is world of warcraft. I'm well aware of the things I need to upgrade, but frankly it'd be easier to get another computer altogether.
Practically everything we get is free, aside from my aunt's macbook (Which isn't mine). We just don't have the money for nicer computers.
I do have access to a much, much better computer. We got 4GB of ram for it a few days ago. I'll just have very little access to it. It'll do.
Well that's what I intended to say. We got it free several years ago and haven't gotten anything else free since then
I have no idea. Like I said, I've got minimal use of it. It runs everything I throw at it completely flawlessly though (Lego star wars, World of warcraft, PSX emulators, etc.) So I'm assuming it'll run fairly well.
if it is a P4, more than Lkely it does have an AGP slot, and uses DDR memory instead of DDR2.
32MB video card? I think it should be able to play just fine. I know my 64MB card about a year ago could play Half Life 2 on nearly max settings (not max resolution and AA though)

False, my old Dell 8400 had a P4 and had DDR2 667 Mhz and a PCI-E x16 slot.

I didn't say will, I just said more that likely.

Given the computer you have, I certainly suggest Command and Conquer - Red Alert 2 was fantastic, along with Yuri's Revenge; also Tiberium Sun. They are cheap to buy too!
Well, I just finished building mine a week or 2 ago (update to my thread coming soon), and I'm loving playing all these source games on Maxx. I'm loving these mods too! In fact, ima go make a source mod thread....
If you know other people who play WoW besides those who use your computer, you can do Recruit-A-Friend with them to make the leveling faster:
With the new Recruit-A-Friend program you can earn an exclusive Zhevra mount, receive a FREE month of game time, and gain access to other exciting in-game benefits. From the moment your friend creates a character and starts playing you'll both earn triple the experience when grouped together and have the ability to summon one another from anywhere in the world. Also, for every two levels of experience your friend earns, they can grant one level of experience to one of your lower-level characters.
You can also multi-box so that you can take advantage of Recruit-A-Friend even when you play by yourself (with a family member's account and your own), but your computer probably won't be able to run two instances of WoW at the same time. Something to point out, though, is that account-sharing is against Blizzard's EULA and can get the account banned if you get caught.
Yeah recruit a friend is hax. I'm at 35, and I've been playing for a week and a half off and on.
I would say orange box, WoW or Audiosurf. If you have a big music library, audiosurf is great and pretty damned cheap to boot
