Portablizing is an expensive hobby, to get the tools and components you need. You won't do much on a shoestring...

Indeed, $200 is probably about right for a basic system (screen, console, controller, batteries, etc); and that is after you have all the necessary tools (Dremel, soldering tools, wiring, sanding materials, bondo, files, craft knives, screwdrivers, etc, etc). Point is, if they guy is struggling to pay for a soldering iron he doesn't stand a chance at making anything; with best will in the world. He needs a part time job to raise funds!

I talked to my dad, and I'm in luck, he's got a soldering iron, electrical solder, and most of the other stuff I need :D Now I gotta get the actual components of the portable. He also offered to take me out shopping to try and find ben's book.

Well if you don't like buying things on the computer, this hobby will be rather tricky for you.

yes, many parts (battery, charger,or Polycase cases) are most easily found online, and can be very tricky to get ahold of elsewhere

I'm going to be able to buy stuff online, but nonly if it's stuff that's hard to get in stores. That's why my dad won't get me the book until we check all the bookstores *sigh* we should be going this weekend, then I'll study up.
