Indeed, $200 is probably about right for a basic system (screen, console, controller, batteries, etc); and that is after you have all the necessary tools (Dremel, soldering tools, wiring, sanding materials, bondo, files, craft knives, screwdrivers, etc, etc). Point is, if they guy is struggling to pay for a soldering iron he doesn't stand a chance at making anything; with best will in the world. He needs a part time job to raise funds!
