I was thinking, maybe for some of the elements like the spaceship, moon scene, and aliens, you could make models for them with Blender, the advanced (but free) 3D software suite. No offense but the flat parts in the test footage look like flying billboards, and are limited to fixed perspective and lighting conditions. With a 3D model you could change the lighting, angle, and effects to match whatever scene you're doing.
As long as you don't go "Speed Racer" with the effects...
please don't.
