Just because you have a dell doesnt mean it sucks, it just means you built it to suck. I have a Dell 8400, the thing is fast as hell...takes no longer than 25 seconds to boot into my desktop and have everything loaded.

It runs all programs fast, all games work perfectly on the highest settings.

I could make a computer that is better than ANY dell (including the 10,000$ one).

Second, gamecube most of the info in that book is outdated because it came out in nov 05 which means its info was even before that.

I would suggest salvaging whatever you can. For instance, the power supply and the case from the Dell pc should work fine, and will cut down on about 40$ of the expense.

If you're looking for a gaming pc, AMD is definatly better, and the new 64 bit CPU is worth it, too.

Radeon and ATI are the best as far as video cards go. Preference varies, but I prefer ATI myself, but again, it's all preference. And remember, when buying a new card, PCI express is the new AGP, and it's becoming hard to find one with AGP support, so I would suggest just getting a PCI express card and board.

As for RAM, definetly get at least a gig, more if possible. And remember, while looking at ram, not only look at the megabytes, but also the megahertz. Faster ram is a good thing to have for gaming pc's, and copled with everything else, makes for a screaming machine, and it's not much more for a bit faster ram.

Hard drives, you might want to look into the new SATA drives, as they're about twice as fast, but remember to be sure that your motherboard supports it (most new ones do)

With your motherboard, all you really have to be sure of is that it has the right plugs and is compatible with your CPU.

That's about it.
