When I needed something new, I stumbled upon Oblivion. It wasn't merely like a breath of fresh air, it was like being pushed out of an aircraft and falled ten thousand feet through nothing but fresh air!

The game is huge, and epic. Sure, you can do the main plot, but you can also spend something like 80 hours doing "side" plots. You can become the leader of the mages guild, work for a group of assasins, become a professional theif and help a man become immortal, and on and on and on. Furthermore, you can download entire new areas to roam around in for free! You can download a personal underground palace, mods to make more enemies (hacking through tens of rats instead of just two is SO much fun!).

The best part of all?...it's skill based. Yeah, there's some leveling aspects, but leveling has barely any influence on the game when compared to skill. The combat system is very much like a first person shooter. You need to carefully time how much preasure you place on arrows and lead targets correctly to hit a moving enemy at distanc. Guessing where your target will be is also important with ranged spells. If you swing a sword and you're within range, you get a hit. No "miss..." garbage. If you block, you block. Sometimes you hit for a little more or less damage, but you'll never miss an enemy if you're in range and facing it. Melee weapons are also pretty tricky, because you clicking the mouse starts the swing, but your weapon isn't actually slashing through the air properly till a fraction on a second later. If you run up to an enemy and THEN try to swing your sword, the enemy's going to get a hit in first in all likelihood as you're mid-swing.

I <3 Oblivion!

Without games my life would have no meaning.
