[sarcasm] Oh, wow! Sony increased the price? No! They couldn't, they wouldn't. Well, they shouldn't, but they did! [/sarcasm]
Base-$500 Premium-$600
And yet, somehow, I'm not surprised...

EDIT: Or even check 6:43 here
I gotta say, I' laughing so hard, it hurts!

Double EDIT: They say three makes the confirmation. Hee, hee! This is too funny...

500 isnt bad, that only puts it at £10 cheaper than what the the 360 premium is selling for over here

($500 = about £270)
(360 premium = £279.99)

hmm... atleast there's no boomerang there :P !

Either way sony is still going to be top seller... maybe 2nd (after nintendo). Because Sony always somehow manages to stay top... and I think XBox 360 might stay somewhere close to Sony (though microsoft will still be behind).

SONY DID NOT RIP OFF WII
well the good book of the Lord says seek and you will find. well seek I did and so I did find. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/705/705934p1.html just take a look here and see for yourself. the ps3 tilt sinsitivity is not a ripoff of Wii at all , it simply was not implemented yet is all.
Sony had experimentations and partnerships with motion-sensitive controllers (the same as it had plans before Xbox Live to do what Xbox Live does before Microsoft brought its product out), but the question still remains as to whether SCE would have bothered had Nintendo not come up with its gaming "revolution."
though I do believe that sony only went through with this because the Wii was accepted pretty well, Sony has been working with this for longer than nintendo. The analog triggers are nothing new either they go all the way back to the sega saturn, as does the analog stick. http://membres.lycos.fr/segasaturn/imag ... logPad.gif
the core system has no hdmi but if you can afford a big Hi-def tv and are that picky about your video quality than why don't you go buy a premium system. the 20gb standard Hdd will be nice for gamesaves. no memory stick slots, big deal, seriously how many of you actually ever used an xbox memory card  . sure the extra $100 is not great but if you think about it FREE ONLINE, I mean a 1 year subscription to xbox live costs what $50, after 2 years that extra $100 will have paid itsself off.
Now that I have finished I will stress the oint one more time TO ALL NINTENDO FANBOYS SONY DID NOT STEAL THE WII'S CONTROLLER IDEA, SONY HAS BEEN WORKING ON IT LONGER THAN NINTENDO
[EDIT]
the ps3 controller tilt feature recieved good reviews when playing warhawk
As for the brand-new six degrees of freedom via its tilt sensitivity, Warhawk was the only game on display that currently makes use of the technology but it seems to work very well. Granted, being as Warhawk is a flight game and controlling a ship's yaw, pitch and such are never instant, it's difficult to say how the pad's freeform control will work in other titles, but it plays great with Warhawk.
the difference is that the ps3 sisitivity is not meant to be the same as the wii's it is not the primary controll and it is not for playing tennis or playing the brushing your teeth simulator. I think a next gen katamari would be fun with the tilt and so would a monkey ball type game.
Warhawk is one of the games that supports the tilt sensor, and it feels surprisingly tight and easy to use. Flying the plane by tilting the controller is very intuitive.
Gamespot thinks so too
We also managed to bump into Criterion's Alex Ward at Sony's grand unveiling, and he said he was really excited about the controller, saying that he "can really see how it fits in his games." We imagine a Burnout game can't be too far behind.

The 360 now has a killer app, Oblivion as people are mentioning. Halo 3 is coming, along with Final Fantasy Online, Gears of Wars and a lot of other stuff.
What I enjoyed the most about this is that, among all of the "other stuff" that is coming out for the Xbox 360, you decided to choose three games that are sequels to other games: Oblivion (also known as the Elder Scrolls IV), Halo 3, and yet another Final Fantasy game. I personally have not looked into Gears of War, but I'll laugh if it, too, is just another installment of an already well-known franchise. The big names are what attract attention, even your list of notable games above shows that. Virtually all game companies do the same thing, not just Nintendo.

Last time I checked, I already owned a DVD player before the PS2 came out, and an MP3 player before the PSP came out. UMD movies? No thanks, I already have a portable DVD player. And most people already had a PS1/PS2 before the slim versions of the consoles came out. So what's your point? Anyone with his eyes half-open can tell you that virtually all of the companies pull the same crap.

Am I the only one who does NOT see Oblivion as a true 'killer app'? It's just something about how Oblivion debuted on the PC first and foremost. Sure, Oblivion is awesome and all (especially on the PC), but a 'killer app'? I think not.

What do you mean it debuted on the PC first and foremost? It came out for both PC and Xbox 360 on the same day, and both have equal graphics (highest settings, I mean). Have you played Oblivion yourself, though?

It truly is an amazing game...I've got only 70 hours, and I'm not even halfway through with all the cool stuff to do in there. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to play it much :(...If Oblivion was the only game out for the 360, I'd still probably want the 360....other good games make it desirable as well, though.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

And sell to whom? Just to get it an a couple games will probably cost near or over 1000$ If I'm gonna spend that kind of money, I'll get a good PC, thank you very much.

If the PS3 is 500$ at bare minimum, you're already at half a grand.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FL ... oding=UTF8

Heres one dual layer blu ray disc. ONE! Not a case of em, but just one. 60$. Sure, we'll take 20$ off of packaging on it. So say it takes 40$ for each blu ray disc. They're sure to add just as much to the price to compensate for the amount spent on the game, maybe even more because of PS3's high development costs. I'm betting bare minimum of 70$ for PS3 game discs, maybe as high as 100$. You buy a PS3 and 3 games and you're at no less then 710$ without tax. Without tax! Sony's pushing prices beyond what they should be, and I'm willing to bet it bite them in the but.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/09/dual- ... st-minute/

Also, heres a nice article about the PS3's motion sensing. Known to the developer for only two weeks? Yeah, that was tacked on to make it seem newer then it really is.

Personally, I see this as a battle between Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony have driven me away with the price. Perhaps you might even see a tie with Microsoft and Nintendo, because many people will buy Wii just to see whats so wierd about it. Or Wii users will buy a 360 to enjoy some standard style gaming. It's a waiting game now.

I mean that I am regurgitating facts, just like the rest of us. I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember Adam and Morgan saying what I have said. If I'm wrong, than my bad - though my opinion stands. It still seems wrong to call it a killer app.

Yes, I have played Oblivion, and I think it pwns! I haven't played nearly as long as yourself, but I've had some interesting experiences- like enchanting a silver longsword to do 10 fire damage over a 40ft radius. HILARIOUS. You run up and swing at a guy, and half the people you can see catch on fire.

I suppose my preference for the PC could be skewing my opinions.

heh heh, well, it'd be wrong for all of us to say we don't have biases ;)...

Anyway, it doesn't seem to have caught on as a killer app the way Halo did, but I certainly think it made my 360 worth having :)...

Yeah, Mr. H, the Wii launch lineup has the typical franchises, but just as well it features a bajillion fresh games.
