NOAC found at Wal-Mart?

Post by arfink »

Just so you know, I don't have a website, so I really can't post pics... :(

Anyhow, I was shopping at Wal-Mart and wandered into the toy section. I noticed an aisle filled with those plug-and-play TV games and was interested in getting an Atari VCS rip-off for my dad, since his Atari gave up the ghost a while ago. As I was looking, a truly hideous pair of devices caught my attention. They were TECHNO SOURCE TV PLAY POWER devices manufactured especially for Wal-Mart. One was supposed to be a 10-in-1 Intellivision, and the other was a Coleco rip-off, but each one had buttons labeled A and B, with X.Y turbo buttons, start and select buttons, and a reset button. Hmmm.. seems Nintendo-ish... The screen shots also looke Nintendo-y, especially since I actually own a Coleco Vision. So I got one for $10 and ripped it apart. I found something which looked like it was a NOAC, and which seemed to connect to it's controller board with the same pin-out as the NOACs 'The Ben' and all you guys have been using, except it didn't have a cart port. Since I don't have a way to post pictures, I'll have to describe in text, or have someone else post them for me. If you think you could post them for me, send me a private message.

BTW, the PCB with the NOAC has two glops, one round one is apparently the NOAC, while a squareish one is the ROM bank. The PCB has a serial number on it, "ML10500-V3A"

Yes, but since it isn't made for carts, you have to create your own pinout.

There is every indication that this device IS a real NOAC or something very simmilar, however it is simmilar to some of the other NES emulating type devices in that it does not use all the pins that a famicom would. I beleive this is because the built in games have a special mapper which is designed right in with the NOAC on the PCB. I will get a Noac from gannon some time and compare them to see if it is a true NOAC that can be sucessfully hacked.

I picked up one of these. It says it has 12 built in games (they had another that had 6) and they were selling for $2.99 each.

The sound is very Nintendo-like but the graphics are a bit better... There were too many colors for me to believe it was a Nintendo.
