Weird Cyber 3D Visor thing....
Bought it today at Goodwill for $2.50. Seemed worth the chance. So I have it plugged in right now and all I get is a flickering image when I look through the lens at the screen. (It dosn't work at all on my LCD screen, the whole screen looks black when I look at it)
I looked on google for some software for it, but found nothing. It must be pretty old. The name on it is "CYBER 3D VISOR" And that's all the information I can find.
The way it works is it goes inbetween the plug to the monitor and the PC. That way the monitor still gets the signal and so does the visor. It uses a 9V battery for power.
(BTW, thrift stores are great! I got a 29" RCA TV for $25 at the Salvation Army!!! It's so...HUGE! I don't know how I could stand my old one.)
So does anybody know anything about these things? I would really like to get it working.

Did you try lowering the screen resolution to 640 by 480 or below?
I think it might be for simulating 3D images by flickering images between the 2 eyepieces really quickly... but then again I haven't used anything like that before.

First of all:
You got them for that little? Typically LCD shutter glasses go for about $1,000!
Second, LCD shutter glasses work on CRTs ONLY, LCDs don't flicker and aren't interlaced.
What they do is use the flickering of the screen and make it appear 3-D while not disturbing the color like red and blue cellophane glasses do. They are the best 3-D experience there is!
Edit: there should also be some kind of transmitter box (that fits in your VGA line) to sync the flickering with the interlacing lines of the screen.

This visor was made by Cyberstuff / Cybertronics in 1997, it has a VGA controller, this software came with it, Slipstream 5000, Whiplash, Descent2 (8level) (info from http://www.stereo3d.com/shutter.htm)

Yep, there is a box with a cable that goes inbetween the PC and the monitor. there is a sync button, a power button, and audio/volume controls. It even has a place to hook up another set of shutters! Imagine playing multi-player goldeneye on an emulator, in 3D!
The head thing even has headphones built into the strap. Kinda nifty.
What I can't figure out is how to get the 3D effect. I tried it on an old monitor and the only different thing was I could see scan lines going down the screen. Perhaps I need a faster refresh rate monitor?
Anybody ever seen a 3D movie in an Imax theatre? It is the best thing ever! You haven't lived till a T-rex comes nipping at your nose. Everyone in the audience was cringing with their hands in front of them

You need to get the right games, were you expecting 3-D MS Word? The only one I know of that supports LCD shutter glasses is Nanosaur 2. Pretty much any game that has a 3-D option should work though.G-force wrote:What I can't figure out is how to get the 3D effect. 1. $1000? $300? i got mine brand new for 25 bucks. but 2.50 is still an awesome deal.
2. if you get the right refresh rate it will stop flickering, higher of course is gunna be better.
3. if u found some software, there will be some settings that u can pick which game ur gunna play. if u cant get them to work then that should make them work, but if u did get them to work, then that should make them work better.

Then you probably didn't buy LCD shutter glasses.new york cheech wrote:1. $1000? $300? i got mine brand new for 25 bucks. but 2.50 is still an awesome deal.
Yes, and no. LCD shutter glasses are supposed to flicker so that the computer can switch which eye sees the screen at a time, and the game uses flickering at the same rate (between two images) to switch what that eye sees and what the other one sees.new york cheech wrote:2. if you get the right refresh rate it will stop flickering, higher of course is gunna be better.
