Snes audio problem

Post by coolin' »

I am building the hand built snesp in ben's book and it is almost done. All i need is to get the audio working, and I will close it up. The sound used to work, then suddenly quit working. I have connected my snes to two different psone screens, and it won't work with either, so I think the problem lies with the snes itself. Sometimes, the sound will come on briefly when I turn on the system (during the nintendo logo), but then will quit working. What could be wrong??! I am thinking of just finishing it, and living with no sound...

I'm not sure, but it could be that you need another ground connection for the audio?

what fuses on the mini-snes are there to jump that only affect the audio?

I have tried it with full battery power, still no sound... where are all the ground spots for audio on the mini snes?

Try connecting the ground spot from the AV jack holes to the ground spot on the lefthand ribbon cable connector of the screen. Beyond that, I can't help you, though it's great you're ACTUALLY building the SNESp from Ben's book, I've never heard of anyone doing that before.

tried connecting the ground from the av jack holes on snes to the ground on the ribbon cables, and still no sound. But it wouldn't matter what ground on the psone screen I was connecting to, would it?

Thought while I was here, I'd post a pic of the snes so far (just no sound)
I know, it's not quite ben's quality, but its good enough looking for me.

try shorting the resistors on the psone screens that the audio lines go to...if that still doesn´t work, then try hooking the audio up to a TV or something else with audio inputs...if there´s still no sound, then it´s definitely something wrong with the SNES :(
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I think I figured out whats wrong. I was messing with the snes and found that one of the black, large square components that said sony and nintendo on top was shorted out. All of the leads off three sides were for some reason, all connected to each other somehow, so I must have fried this chip. I ordered another mini snes off ebay already, though.

If the leads were just connected, you could use a desoldering braid (get it at RadioShack) to get the solder off of the connections. It might work then.
