Battery voltage modifiers

Post by elixirnova »

Hrm Dont have a clue if this is the right forum but here it goes...
On my pstwo portable I have a pstwo that runs off of 8.5V I think (correct me if im wrong) and a screen that runs on 7.5V. Ive heard of voltage regulators and DC-DC converters? When i go looking for a battery(ies) how many Volts should it be to get best performance/battery life? Any help plez

That screen can run on anything from 7.2V to almost 9V, so if you get a battery that can power the PS2, you don't need a convertor for the screen.

Well the most common batteries i can find are 7.2V and 9.6V both being either too little or too big? Would it hurt the lcd if I ran it at 9.6V?

The picture would be completely screwed, and I don't know if the PS2 an run on 9.6V.

A fully-charged 7.2v battery actually puts out a few more volts than listed, so you should be fine. I believe the output of a 7.2v Ni-Mh is about 9v or so.

You can get one of those batteries at Radio Shack for about $80, a little expensive, but it's what im using in mine (still building though, but i've tried it powering the screen, and it works fine) :D
Why make a portable? Because I want to be able to game cordless.

and here's my PS2p !!

Anyone know what the dropout voltage for a LM317T regulator, because that would provide the right voltage (about 7.2v) for a screen and would also be correct for a pstwo (because the output is a little above what is listed).

Hrm I just thought of somthing.
If I wanted to run this off an AC Adapter.
What does the pstwo wall plug output? for the console?
Because it sounds like I could simply hook the screen directly up to the pstwo's power source if they are boht 8.5V? Or do i need some UF's of sort or do I need a 7808? for hte screen?
