edit: I'm thinking you might have a hard time using that wire and getting it to all fit back into the closed cartridge. you only need thick wire like that if your putting lot's of current/voltage through it. for an LED job like this the wire from an IDE cable should be fine (IDE is 28AWG, bigger number is smaller) ..that wire could just look bigger than it actually is though lol
Try refreshing the page, that's what I had to do
Also, it's about a millimeter thick, may look bigger in the photo, i have an old USB mouse that broke, could I strip the wires out of the usb cord and use them? They are very thin, copper and multi-coloured. If not my grandpa is an electrician, so I'm assuming he may have some wires

If it fit's, great, otherwise try something else. any wire should do lol, at least with the wire you have you'll be able to get it working, and then if it doesn't close, you'll get some more practice removing it, and redoing it with thinner wire

I was wondering whether or not the LED will only come on when the game is plugged in, because I don't want it on all the time, only when its in the Gameboy.
well think about it, the gameboy game cartridge only get's power (given from the gameboy) when it's plugged in. so if you wire the led to the game cartridge, what do you think will happen?

Lol, oh yeah good point!
The only reason I wasn't sure was because I know there is a small battery in the cart and I wasn't sure weather the LED would drain that.
Other question is do I solder the wires to the little holes above the pins 1 and 32? and it's definitely positive to 1 and negative to 32? sorry, I just really don't want to mess up too bad first time XD

Good point about the internal battery.. I'm almost sure that that battery would not be connected to the power rail that get's power from the gameboy, because if it was, each time you put in your game cart the memory chip would get too much voltage and fry itself. but I haven't actually opened up a game cart so I can't be sure. but I'm 99% sure without looking because it just wouldn't make sense if they were joined lol
I think someone posted a link to an instructable on the first page of this thread. I can't help you with the specifics, like which pins, because I haven't done this mod myself. So I'd say follow that instructable and you'll be sweet

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
And I did find a link about it to instuctables but because I don't pay I don't get to see high res pictures, I'll ask my grandpa and try and figure it as I go I guess... TBH it wouldn't make much sense if you had to solder the wires directly to the pins as then it would be impossible to close the cart and it wouldn't go into the GBC's slot...
EDIT: Signed up free to instuctables but the guy still makes it a lot harder than it needs to be
you could trace those pins back to the first component they connect to and solder your wire to that. because that would be the same as soldering directly to the correct pin, as long as theres no components between your wire and the pin it'll work fine. your right, soldering directly to the pins won't work because then the cart won't go into the gameboy. I assume the picture you saw was just showing were the power comes in, and where the ground pin is. so yea, hopefully you can figure it out!
Also, there will be many places that are GROUND inside the cartridge, so you don't necessarily have to go straight to that pin. just use a multimeter to find another point in the cartridge that's GND and you can solder your ground side of the LED to that.

What do you mean by Current? Ohms, Volts???
And wouldn't a thick wire increase the resistance?
Because there is much more wire and density for the 'electricity' to travel through, thus slowing it down? (Well, increasing the Ohms)
But, as for the resistors - it lowers the AMPS and VOLTS? Correct??

Generally just amps, like in the tests I posted before, it only dropped the voltage when I went supersayan and put a 500k resistor in there

current is measured in amps

there is more wire for the electricity to flow freely. thus why a thicker wire can deliver more current (amps) and why we use thicker wire for the main power wires in our portables
