What does it mean when you can only move stick diagonally?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

What does it mean when you can only move stick diagonally?

Post by Mtrapp »

I rewired my gamecube stick in super pad 64 mod after cutting the traces and rewiring what I thought would be the right way... I have the x axis on top and y axis on the right (when looking at back of analog stick piece). I soldered the ground wire to the far right pin on top (x axis) and bridged to the bottom pin on right (y axis).

I turned on my n64 and this time my system didn't shut off, but I must have something wrong. I could only move diagonally: down/left when moving the stick left, and up/right when moving stick to the right. I went on the character select screen on super smash bros. so I could see exactly what the cursor was doing. It also moved very slowly down when in neutral position. It seemed that pressing up and down on the stick had no effect. I could only get movement diagonally down/left and up/right.

you connected ground but did you connect the power? you need like at least 4 different signals (GND, POWER, X, Y)to connect the 6 terminals on a joystick.

Well all the ones Ive seen anyhow.
