you could use a heat gun on it, theres a couple of chips i would heat for this problem but its not a guaranteed fix,
i would heat the graphics chip the ram and the display chip, ill try findign a picture and highlight where i mean. though i guess while youre at it you could heat the cell too

heat each section for about 20seconds at around 300C(i think, my heatgun has the stupidest dial ever). don't move it for about 15-20minutes after heating then turn it over and do the reverse side of the blue areas. then leave to cool for 15-20minutes again and put it all back togeter, ensure you plug in the fan and battery.
Do this at your own risk.
also I know that a EU 60GB PS3 but those chips are in the same place on the US and Jap ones.

Heating things randomly is usually not a good idea.Goldy wrote:minnieman wrote:well i guess... if i cant fix it that way, what are some other ways?

Isn't random, bassmasta wrote: Heating things randomly is usually not a good idea.
the hdmi chip the graphics and cpu.
Though he fixed it in an unlikely way, i assume it was showing the weird lines not on the xmb/in games.
Re: broken ps3 fix...?
well thats what the ebay page said, and it was just a faulty linux install! yay for noobs
