It's a programmable USB chip. They sell it at that link.

Is there anything that I can get this part from rather than buying it online?

If not, you could easily make one for the parallel port, though.

I can't even follow that schematic, unless it is really messed up. Just google parallel port NES controller, and you should find something useful.

Re: Does anyone recognize this USB component?
Did you use any necessary drivers to make that Genesis -> Parallel adapter work? It won't do anything if you just connect the wires.
There's a link here, along with ASCII schematics and the actual pinouts.
http://pinouts.ru/Game/genesiscontroller_pinout.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you want a plug-and-play USB controller, get a $10 USB gamepad at Wal-Mart and use its USB encoder on your Genesis pad. If you can find a matching set of connectors with enough pins, you might even be able to make a breakaway cable and make the controller still work with an actual Genesis console.

Re: Does anyone recognize this USB component?
I mean, I know this forum is all about hacking for the sake of hacking, but if you really just want a Genesis controller for your PC, this is a GREAT option (especially since it has 2 shoulder buttons for SNES games):

GREAT pad, just make sure whoever you order from that the pictures have an "SLS" logo on the back of the controller as there are many lower quality clones floating around as well. SLS stands for "Sega Logistics Service" and is some sort of subsidiary of Sega.
