Anyone gotten to try all 3 DS's?

Post by Sun-Wukong »

Here's the deal. I love my DS, but I've had it sense 2004 and father time seems to have taken a bat to the touch screen. It still works, but not as well as I'd like it to. It feels slightly elevated from the actual touch sensor or whatever it is under the LCD display, and certain parts just feel scratchy. Also the color depth is really lacking compared to the DS Lite's, and in moderate to bright sunlight, it's can be just ball to try and see what's going on.

The reason for my question though, is that I've used a DS Lite before, and I just can't stand the D-Pad. It just doesn't work well enough for 3D games, and as much as I loves me some Mario 64 and Mario Kart DS, I's hard for me to accept that as the only other option. So, hows the D-Pad on the DSi? Is it more like the DS Phat's, or should I just save money and get a DS Lite anyway?

DS lite is clearly the best 3D game console.

The DSi's D-Pad (From what I have read) is substantially better.

But don't quote me on that.

I appreciate the advice, also I just realized I posted this in the wrong section. If a mod could just move it to handhelds...

The DSi D-pad is just like the original DS.

Its more of a cross between the DS's and the DS lite's. It has the "click" of the DS's with the similar feel of the DS Lite's.

Actually, I've owned all 3 at the same time. Out of the 3 I gotta say the original DS's D-pad is the best. The form factor of the Lite is the best, and the screens on the DSi are the best. If I can get my hands on another DS lite I'll make a comparison video of all 3.

So, is the DSi's D-Pad at least comparable to the DS Phat's?

I like it very slightly better, to be honest. It has nice feedback.

the lites seem to break the easiest. I would go for an original.

the newer versions are only best if you want to communicate with another DS(i) from a farther distance. i remember the original i was like 5 feet away from a friend and we couldn't even get a good connection lol

The DSi's D-pad is almost the same as the phat's, a little smaller, but not puffy like the lite's. Also, the DSi should be getting some cool DSiWares soon....
