That'll be a PAL screen so not compatible with a NSTC console. American console on an english screen, won't work.

yeah now that you mention it me using 'bucks' and 25c would've lead somebody to that conclusion :D It would have sucked if i got the wrong type.

ok, so I have found another screen candidate: a portable lcd tv (5")
it has av input/output too so it should be a snap to connect to a tv as well.
It is also made by roadshow, are they any good? the reviews say the screen quality is good, I think I should just take a gamble.
One issue i can see is the power usage, i can't find any information about it. I can't imagine that it would use much more electricity than the psone screen.I could do the led mod, but would it be as straight forward as doing it on the psone screen?

Since it is also a tv, do you guys think I should keep that functionality? I can't imagine that the reciever etc would take that much room and cutting those parts of the board would be worth it. I probably could cover up the anntenna when it's not in use.

i have another question:
could i use an old 3rd party ps2 controller in my n64p? it'll save me a bundle as I already pulled it apart ages ago and i just found it again in my parts bin. i realise some modding would be required, would it be worth it?

worth it? depends.. It think it could be done but it would require a few components (not just a simple process of moving this wire to there etc...)

I've always thought about building the cube 64 which lets you use gamecube controllers on the n64, and then using a ps2 to Gamecube controller adapter, but it would be a lot of extra components with only a slim chance of it actually working, would be cool if it did but.

As for power usage, I dont think that the screen will use too much more than psone screen (if any) , and personally I'd rather lose 30 mins play time than have to put up with the Led mod and the gamble your taking of possibly geting a crap result.

so the LED mod isn't that useful? does anybody have some tests on how much battery life it gains?

LED mods save a significant amount of battery life. However, it's not a WOWOMGTHISISSOAWESMOE amount of battery life. With a high-draw system like the N64 it doesn't really gain you that much. Your choice.

And you could do it at the end if you find you have enough time for it.

ok, I just go the screen from Bacteria this morning (logic 3- £25) and am very happy with the quality and the fact he gave me a freebie game (extreme g 2).
When i get home to australia in a week i can start looking for the other little bits and peices and got started with the portable.

Pleased you liked the screen (and "freebie" game) :D

If you need any more components for your project, let me know - I don't mind shipping to Australia, although of course postage costs more than within the UK!

Keep us posted with your project updates.
