One? I had one attempt with two revisions to the design, Teraflop did two attempts, and there were several other less-serious PCp attempts besides that.
Really..? Only ever saw one, the others must've been made before I joined

Got any links to them?
All the links I have for the benheck forums are from before the latest upgrade, and don't work anymore. I have a link to the worklog I ran in parallel on Hardforums, though; http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=892708" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Rather large for what you seem to be wanting. It's about an inch in depth, and 3 inches wide, and a about a quarter inch in depth if you don't trim the rubber nubs coming off the bottom. I have the version of this with a more track-point like top that I was going to use in my PCp.
An interesting idea borrowed from the Everun Note, is an optical trackpoint. Flip a mini optical mouse upside-down and you get close to the same thing. You'll likely want a high DPI mouse, and will probably need some optics changing, based on an experiment I just did with my MS Arc mouse.
My idea for a PCp is way different. The way you are doing it I fail to see the point. Most picoITX boards are underpowered, and the whole thing could get expensive very quickly. Also it's probably going to end up bigger than you expect. You should just not bother and get an Everun Note or something of that nature.

How would you do it? Either its slow and sips power, or fast and it drinks power, not to mention the cost and size of a more powerful board. ION could be an option, but its unknown if pico-itx sized boards will be made.
Personally, I'd just convert a netbook to a tablet, but that doesn't count.

You'd need to reverse up and down - if you flip an optical mouse upside down and try it out, you'll find that they are switched.

Easily compensated for by the user, or with simple software.
*bump*
Done anything for the construction? Purchased anything?
Anyways, I figured I'd give a link of a mini keyboard I found: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15953" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It's smaller than an EEE PC's keyboard, and should be a lot easier to integrate than making your own (which seems to have been your intent).
While I do have a large chunk of plastic available for machining the case, I have not purchases have been made yet; I'm working on another project - should be done (to my satisfaction) soon, 80% of the wiring is done and the case is complete.
@ that keyboard: That could save me tons of headaches, though it's a shame it is not PS/2, so that's one less USB port

For a portable, you really only need 1 anyway, and that's for flash drives.
