New to modding/hacking machines

I am new here. The description of forum 42 said post questions here so; I kind of want to get into modding some electronics, not exclusively game systems. But having basically zero experience, I don't know what to do or where to start. Which transits into my actual question. What should I do to learn some basic modding skills? I have the equipment I have been reading about,I.E. Soldering Iron, Wire cutters and strippers, ect., I just don't have any know how on things like circuit boards and such. So can someone point me in the right direction?

buy electronics for dummies and ben's book. They both explain electronics. Ben's explains it in terms you can understand and electronics for dummies tells you more information.

Also, for some easy first time projects to help you understand electronics, try making a usb fan, LED flashlight, or change the color of the LED on a game system. But, listen to the above poster and buy Ben's book. It is very down to earth and explains what each part does very clearly.
