FCEUX Vs Nestopia

Post by NesScotland »

Hi,

For a while now i have been using FCEUX for my emulation and thought it was great but today i tried Nestopia and realised straight away the graphics are a lot crisper.

Does anyone know if the crisper (and blockier ! ) graphics on nestopia are closer to the original or are they artificially improved to a standard beyond that of the original hardware?

I would check myself but dont have my nes to hand.

PS - I realise this has nothing to do with console hacking so sorry if its in the wrong section.

quite contrary. The first ones are digitally blurred to make the upscaling "prettier". IMO, it really just makes it uglier.

What I notice is the different colors, seems like the first ones are more accurate. Might be wrong, though

edit: actually, on a second inspection, I think the second ones are closer...

I suspected the second one is closer in colour with the paler blue etc.

And the more i look at it i think the blockiness of the mario in the second one is closer to the original.

When i get my nes back ill check for sure.

it's an emulator, it doesn't have an output, so there should be no blur. The NES doesn't have this kind of blue either, though. If anything, it has a different kind of distortion because of the RF switch

FCEUX is a far superior emulator in terms of accuracy and speed; just go to the video options and disable filtering. Stop using maximize to go fullscreen; just press ALT+ENTER or F4 (I forget which it is)

Yeah, if you want perfect accuracy, I think FCEUX is considered to be one of the most accurate. But really, NES emulation is so mature that almost all of the major emulators can be pretty much 100% accurate.

I prefer Nestopia, because it has the Hq4x graphics filter. Try it. It's gorgeous. It's obviously not perfectly accurate, since it's an improvement over the original, but I prefer using graphics filters so that the games look good on a modern high-resolution monitor.

On a side note, if you wish to try PSX emulation, you must do this: http://forums.ngemu.com/psx-plugin-ques ... lugin.html

As an added bonus, EPSXE can run games from the original disks. Nice.

Umm... this thread is about NES emulation. I think you had an error in translation somewhere.

Umm…這條螺紋是關於NES仿效。 我認為您有一個錯誤在翻譯某處。
