Kyo - Previously, I desoldered the power jack and audio jacks, sure; however the wires for the audio jack are a bit on the weak side and easily breakable. I figured it easier, quicker and stronger, to leave them on their boards time time around.

I do like dremeling fun though!

Another pic - the colours represent the wires going into an official PSone controller.

Colour is starting to show nicely on my cases, classy!! :D

(The actual colour is a different shade to this one, pics taken in the garage end up with wrong colours). Correct colour is as per my next post...

Had a few coats now, paint wet; took a pic. Contrast that colour with black parts and it will look fab:

Color looks good!
I like that you remembered the inside of the cart slot.

Also, It's gonna look spiffy in black.

Looks very smooth mate.

DId you notice you hot glued the contacts of the power jack though? At least, it looks that way.

jjhammerstein - Thanks, I like the colour. Nice touch to make the memory card holder look integrated I thought!

Ben Cebhrem - No, might look like it but the contacts are not glued and are exposed in readiness to solder onto! :D

I have used probably half or more of a spray can doing this, given probably about 8 or so coats over last hours; and 3 coats of varnish. Left the case halves on the card stilts in the meantime as the case is soft at the moment, touch it and you get fingermarks, which can be easily rubbed off with a cloth, proves it needs overnight to dry properly, or longer.

I had painted the back plate the same colour, although I then changed my mind when done and made it black; if I don't like it, I will make it cream again:

Here is a pic for your delectation:

Image

CD tray and the surround will be painted black with a brush; once the case is properly dried out. This will give a nice contrast, in keeping with my cream and black theme.

Spent quite a lot on the spray paints; needed plastic primer, colour, colour sealer; metallic black, metallic sealer - that's 5 cans; about £27 worth! :o Never mind, might only need to buy more cream (porcelain) colour, I have plenty left to complete my other projects! :D

Yeah, I don't why I thought you might have. You're very meticulous in your work, and always working with tight 0.1mm tolerances, if not closer.

Keep it up, I've gotta see how the black on cream looks!

what impresses me the most are the holes for the controls, those are really smooth. Almost scary

Thanks mate.

Been using these - small files, some flat, some curved, one which is a small circular one, one triangular and one with a square. Between them all, I can get curves, straight edges, nice corners and circular small button holes. Easy to use, cheap to buy (got from cheap shops) and you get really smooth shapes and edges using gentle strokes with these small files.

Tried the black backing plate on the rear console case, looked overpowering, so will have the inside side of it black and the outside of it cream. I found a nice PlayStation logo searching on Google images, will use that for the backing plate; quite large. I will also use it as a small logo between the Select and Start buttons on the front of the case. I don't see any patent infringement using the logo on my system, especially as the logo is different to the original, and the contents of the portable are all original Sony PlayStation parts / generic. I like this logo as it looks more interesting than the normal flat boring one; looks classy I think:

Here, in comparison, is the flat boring official one:

No project time tonight, however I will be able to put various layers of paint onto the backing plate and get that painted and finished; which will save me time later.

Before I assemble the system, I intend to do the decals and get them on; reason being I can then fix the decals in position on the case and apply another layer of varnish on the case to preserve it; as once the screen and controls are in place it will be too late to apply varnish.

One thing guys, applying a typeface to a system is important as the lettering needs to be easy to read; also funky but not silly. Came up with the below "Ace Crikey" font. Do you think it nice and also suitable; or is there a better one you know (please post your suggestions using "Into*Play" as the words, with example of the result and also the typeface you used.

My thought:

Image

This one of course will be quite small, to go on the front of the case under the screen.

Typeface I use for this will also be used for the other decal wording (eg Select, Start, etc).

Sort of look like this (this is only photo edited from previous picture, not on actual case):

Comments, thoughts, like it / hate it / suggestions? Like the red or prefer it different colour?

I am open to suggestions...

Agreed, but i'm having trouble finding a better colour and font - hoping for suggestions. I'm not settling on the one I showed above, may go black not red or whatever, and i'm sure there must be a better font. Ideas please?? :?:

Everything is so professional so far, you'd do best with a less intrusive font, Helvtica Bold or something.

And for color?

Black, of course.

Gut Nacht.

Font ideas:
Arial
Century Gothic
Charcoal
Eurostile
Gadget
Geneva
Helvetica
InaiMathi
Lucida Grande
Skia
Trebuchet MS

That's all from the ones I have on this computer.

They're not BORING, they're CONSERVATIVE.
Also, use a hollow star instead of an apostrophe.

You know, I think after playing with my graphics program, that having wording on the system will look "fugly". Let me show you what I mean:

Image

See what I mean? Cluttered and fugly.

The more I look at the blank case, the better I think it is remaining so.

Image

See what I mean? Less is more.

Bear in mind, there will be controls and buttons and a screen here too which will add depth and colour; having decals on the case front will look cluttered.

I will have the PS logo (the funky one) on the backing plate. That will look fantastic; and I can put the system name under it. On the front, the only decals I might put, stress "might" is a sun logo for the contrast and speaker logo for the volume buttons; one pic in the middle of each set of buttons. Maybe "Start" and "Select" too, small.

Agree?? Comments and ideas welcome!
