The power draw wouldn't be enough to make much difference. Besides, it wouldn't work past half-way through the build .

I noticed a lot of things that were wrong with the info given in the show, as well as more than enough evidence to know you are not very experienced/knowledgeable with this but you have more than enough to at least make a working portable. I'm not being negative at all, I mean we were all n00bs at some point and I can clearly tell you're not stupid in the subject. Nice guide for complete newbies as it is super easy, but now you should stick around and work on making a super nice one  .

I appreciate your input neildo_64. I have just recently been diving into electronics, and still a noob myself. Perhaps you could tell us some thing that were wrong as far as the information goes? It would be nice to know for myself and future viewers.

I'm actually thinking about making one for myself (the show one wasn't exactly what a nice system could have been :") I have acess to a couple 3d printers and laser cutters, so i think that would really help out with a nice case hehe

Laser cutters and 3d printers you say? Hmm...Well you've got the hard part taken care of then ;). The case is the most tedious and time consuming part of a nice portable. Notice I said a NICE portable . No offense to anyone, but some of the portables around aren't very nice. I can't remember for sure what was incorrect with the video, but nothing was far off. Overall it was a nice video and did a good job breaking it down into a very easy project, which is good for the new comers to see that it isn't an overwhelming project. I may watch the video again later to see what was wrong, but it was nothing big and wouldn't matter much anyway. I mean you obviously know enough to build one, right? :D

we're all looking at you, SS

But seriously, I envy you. I've always wanted to have access to a 3d printer. You should be able to make a very nice case with it. Lucky... person

While I'm sure you may know this, but the models most 3D printers put out are NOT exactly... Well, usable.
They're great for making models, replicas, etc.
But they're not very strong, to say the least.

Now, if you're talking a setup for Selective Laser Sintering...
Well, then you most certainly could make a case with that alone!

But with a 3DP type, or one of those 3D-Inkjet variations, you wouldn't be able to make a case sadly... Not one that could withstand use at least.
Though, you could make a NICE mold for Vac-Forming.

There's those which glue some powder together, I hear they're fairly strong.

Ahem. My 6th portable(in my hands as we speak) is cosmetically stunning. I have yet to actually post a news topic, but you can see what it used to look like in the contest thread.

Oh, and that joke about me making bad cases and overusing hot glue is old now. Grow up, guys.

Ah, SS, you know we don't mean it :)

You call it overused, I call it running gag.
