Now that they switched to 4 face buttons, i'll definitely be getting one. The Pandora is nice, and i'll maybe get one eventually, but the Wiz is pretty much everything the GP2x is, except better. To me if sounds like just about the ultimate portable. I love my GP2x, and play it all the time, but it has a few shortcomings. The Wiz fixes all of them. Wiz + GP2x software library is something that will be impossible to beat.

What video games are you playing?Bibin wrote:Analog controls ruined video games? Sounds like reality to me.
Analog controls are great for games that require great and precise range of motion and depth of field, i.e. 3D environments. So what are you proposing, we all go out and play CoD4 and Halo 3 with a couple d-pads?
My take on it is that, while looking sweet, Wiz isn't going to be able to run games like Quake 3 on high graphics and Doom 3, Pandora is. Pandora's got more control options, more features, more everything, IMO. The only real problem with it is that it still feels like concept art, despite the release date coming so soon. If they delay any longer, Wiz it is, but I'll hold off until then.
The thing to consider is that 99% of the Wiz' launch software (ie: from the GP2x library), is 2d stuff. Most new homebrew will probably be 2d, due to complexity. You CAN do 3d on a dpad, if the game is designed for it. Mario64 DS is a good example. Directional acceleration is simulated by how long you hold the button down. Not ideal but playable if you design around it.
The biggest 3d app I can see coming to the Wiz might be playable PS1, since it was about half speed or better on the GP2x. The Wiz is capable now that 3d can be offloaded. (Of course this all depends on Zodttd and others). Anyways, most of the PS1 library is playable without analog. Hell the PS1didn't even HAVE analog until long after launch. Most of the "popular" games are dpad friendly.
The Wiz is too small to have both dpad and analog anyway. They could have squeezed a psp sized analog nub, but that thing sucks. I mean, it DOES work, but sucks. Placement would be uncomfortable in my opinion. THe PSP analog nub is much too low. The Wiz small size is it's greatest feature! The Pandora is tiny, yes, but -just- a little too big to always bring it along. The Wiz fits the Gameboy micro type niche well.
I don't really think people buying a Wiz will be buying it for 3d stuff anyway. Its really just a fine tuned GP2x, which is 100% ok with me. If you want to play 3d stuff like FPS', you would be much better off getting a Pandora. Or, if your interested in old computer emulation, Pandora is a better choice because of the keyboard. UMPC functions? Pandora for sure. Only want 2d classics? Wiz hands down.

It's almost half the price of the OpenPandora, which puts it at about the same as a PSP goes for new, I think... with homebrew, wouldn't the psp be hands-down completely better? I'm thinking of getting one, as I have a GP32, and was considering the gp2x before they stopped selling it, but I'm not sure, especially considering the whole "PSP is more powerful, similar price" thing.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.
No; I'm saying today's video game market has been ruined entirely. 2D games are no longer acceptable. 3D games I find boring and horribly similar to each other in nearly every aspect, especially FPS's. Occasionally one stands out and shines as being a great game, but games have lost their greatness.CronoTriggerfan wrote:What video games are you playing?Bibin wrote:Analog controls ruined video games? That, and I've played N64 games with a SNES controller (d-pad mapped to analog stick pushed on full) and found it quite enjoyable entirely.

Look, everyone loves old games. I'm a total retro junkie myself. If I had to pick, then I'd probably choose to play only 2D games as opposed to 3D. That being said, get with the times.
To say there isn't a single good 3D game is just stupid. Analog controls/3D gaming being the fall of games in genearal? Come on.
PSP or WIZ
I do have a couple questions.. I preordered a Wiz because of Emu and Space the sleek style I'm not really worried about pandora I have a ps3 and a wii and laptop don't need a computer in my back pocket,...
question, does the psp have a 32gb sdhc that's what's driving me to the wiz
replace my ipod have games, movies and music all in one ....
