making a slightly wider and thicker ipod touch enclosure

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

making a slightly wider and thicker ipod touch enclosure

Post by turbolover »

i want to have a case made that exactly resembles the ipod touch enclosure but is thicker to accomodate this mobile broadband router:
http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/2201/63/

here are the dimensions:
4.3" x 2.4" x 0.31" ipod touch dimensions
3.6" x 2.8" x 0.8" router dimensions

and here is a pic of them together:

i imagine the router isnt nearly as thick out of its case

any suggestions? I have no case making skills. I could try to just made it thicker by building a piece that snaps inbetween the case halves.

Please explain. I am confused as to why you would want to put a router in an iPod Touch.

The ipod touch can pick up wifi but cannot be connected with any of the mobile broadband cards out there (att, verizon, etc).
the router is specificalyl for thsoe cards and puts out a wifi signal which the ipod touch can use to get on the internet. This way you dont have to be locked down to att for an iphone, have a system that is less locked down, abnd get a faster conenction anyways. mobile internet + skype is $63 a month. versus a good internet and voice plan costing a lot more
basically i am giving the ipod iphonesque functionality
(willb e putting a microphone, bluetooth, gps, and webcam in as well)
