Goodness, this thread is getting low on the front page of Forum 42! Time to put a stop to that!

Making good progress, female cart slot connector prepared, mounted in hacked Blaze Cheat Adapter (GB) which needed modding; needs painting and then wiring it up (tomorrow). This Cheat Adapter saves me time making a cart slot surround and it is nicely curved and an interesting shape too. :D

Used hot glue to seal the gaps, and sanded it before painting (needs final sanding)!

Start my holiday tomorrow, only working 6 days over next 6.5 weeks: wife can't get time off in August, so I will be concentrating on this project until the end of the month! (That is why I am confident I will finish it and have a few system carts made before the end of the month).

Is this thread going quiet because people aren't as keen on this compo as they were, or decided not to enter, or just working so hard on completing their systems that they aren't posting much about them??

i think it's more like cuz a lot of us want them to remain secret until the end. and that we're all working like crazy.

I've decided to refrain from entering. If there's no rules, there's no point. It was a fun challenge to say "Here's the official time frame, do it in this time." That's gone out the window, so I've kind of lost interest in finishing either project by the end of the month.

Instead, I've been scrounging second-hand shops and e-Bay for cheap cheap cheap broken consoles, etc. and repairing them to sell.

Excellent.

Oh well, my system is hardly quiet, documenting everything as it is going along!! :D

Of course you have, absolutely, yes, of course you were entering ( ) :D - yes, that's the reason. Of course.

Come on mate, join in the fun and make a system, there is still enough time!! We can ignore systems started before the compo start date when it comes to voting after all.

When posting your final systems, confirm that you didn't start project design or build before 20 July; be completely honest about it.

Good, nice to see there will be several entries. This forum needs to be fired up again!! :D

Just make Triton submit his entry 1 day early. Will that make you feel better, mothatrucka?

I have a few questions: As far as I can gather, the prize is all going to first place, right? Does that mean the voting system will just have options for "favorite" or will there be multiple categories that they are scored in, then added together?

Also: Please do not think I am being presumptuous, I harbor no illusions of this happening (To me at least). But allow me one more question... Lets say, for arguments sake, that I make 3 portables to enter in the compo. I assume that I am allowed to enter more than 1, right? Lets say that each of them gets 10% of the vote for being the best portable. Lets say that bacterias portable (Or whoever) gets 11% of the vote. Obviously, under that system, bacteria would win.

So my question is... If someone has multiple entries, will all votes for their systems be tallied together, or separately? Some people might say that they should be judeged separately because otherwise, people could just enter like 10 lame portables. Bit I think that since this is not a contest with different categories, and people can only vote once for their absolute favorite, that adding votes together would make sense. Otherwise, it would not make sense to enter two or three entries, as they would really just be stealing votes from your other entries! Does this make sense to anyone? Any reason to not add all votes for a particular persons projects together?

This compo is going to be fun either way. ;)

you answered your own question. it wouldn't be fair to everyone if you added the votes together.

What you quoted was not my opinion, the whole point was to present a likely point of view for the other side, then produce a valid counter argument. Sorry for not being clear enough, my lit class has that format burned into my brain. Anyway, I think my point still stands. Basically, why enter multiple stuff if it would just steal votes from yourself?

i know that was not your opinion. i selected that part of it because it is the truth. it would not be fair to everyone else. and the more entries you have, the more likely you'll have the most awesome one.

Yeah, but ten lame portables aren't going to get any votes.

I think valid points have been raised for both arguments about whether or not entering multiple portables is beneficial. It may increase your chances to win (assuming at least one portable is amazing), but if all work is of equal awesomeness you may very well be stealing votes from yourself.

Thank God - I was getting tired of the whining in this thread.

As for how prizes are assorted, I think it's entirely up to hailrazer considering it's his loot. Any other discussion of prizes is kind of pointless since he's the one providing the prizes and shipping them. If someone else were to also offer prizes, however...

Bacteria, I think this thread got quiet because school is starting back up for many and also because super secret awesome portable making is being done on a wide scale. Actually, I'm going to go fix that controller problem right now.
