Well, I'm doing it this way because... Well, its a learning experience. And I want the satisfaction of making my own power supply.
Ok, that makes sense. Just don't BBQ yourself.

Now that I think about it, you could make a 12v wall adapter, and then use my idea inside the laptop (mainly for sake of simplicity with the power connector).

Say, does your n64 have the door to the expansion pack? You happen to have the same color as I do for systems and I am missing mine, and well, since your tearing into the system...

If you want a powerful power supply unit with 3v, 5v and 12v, and space isn't an issue, how about using a PSU (power supply unit for a PC)?

Thats pretty much what I'm ending up with. Only with the blissful joy of knowing that I built it from scratch.

Yeah, he decided he couldn't afford to make his own case so he decided to go the briefcase style.

Sorry to disappoint guys. I just couldn't afford $400 JUST on the case. Believe me, I wanted to do the carbon fiber case.

eBay. It'll look very nice when its all done. I already started ripping out the foam/cloth inserts.

It has a little ding from shipping, but I'm gonna try and bump it back out.

Given this is going to end up thick, as you mentioned before, you don't need to relocate the expansion pack, just remove the mobo from the expansion pack, and put a small heatsink on it. Get relocating this wrong (as I did) and you need to use a different N64 mobo!

Image

If you use a jumper pak then you can reduce the height of the mobo to about half.

Its thick, but not THAT thick.

The pictures are very misleading on size. Its actually a very small case.

The game slot is mostly soldered for its new location (2/3rd's done). After that, I'll test the unit. I've checked all my joints with a VOM, and everything is not only solid, but not touching. Considering soldering has never been my strong point, I'm happy about these results, and the speed they've happened.

I mean, seriously. A few short hours ago I had just started. And I took a one hour break because my neck was killing me. I think I'm done for the night though. My necks starting to kill again. And I'm getting a bit tired.

I still need to pick a "sacrificial game" just in case all hell breaks loose when I test it. I'm thinking I'll use NFL Quarterback Club '98.
