Dkap01 (David Kaplish) is a scammer!

Post by Bibliophile »

Dkap01 (David Kaplish) is a scammer!

I bought from him a homemade portable Neo Geo MVS. The cost on it was $405, plus $25 shipping. I sent him paypal payment for $430 on 12/23/07. He emailed me and said he would ship it on 1/2/08. He never did. When I sent him followup emails, he never responded.

On 1/26/08, I filed a paypal dispute, and escalated it to a claim. He never responded to either the dispute or the claim.

On 2/6/08, because he never responded, Paypal resolved the dispute in my favor. However, they only refunded me $200 because that is the limit they cover. They sent me the following response:
Paypal wrote: After careful review, this claim has been decided in your favor and
$200.00
USD has been credited to your account.

This is the maximum amount covered by PayPal. If your claim was for
more
than the amount recovered, the outstanding balance is due from the
seller
and we will make our best effort to recover it for you.

I only got $200 back, and dkap01 still owes me $230, which I now have to file a credit card dispute with my credit card to get credit back for the remainder.

Beware this seller, and do not buy anything off of his website:

http://customportables.com

Also, his ebay ID is dkap01.

After he scammed me, I found out he scammed someone else the same way. More information on his scams can be found here:

We have already seen this. From you.

Why post it twice?

BTW: vb_masta is a good trader/seller/buyer(done all three with him before)

sgtpepper dissapeared in the middle of a sale, and hasnt returned yet, so, bad record for him until its cleared up.

Good question, but I wasn't just reposting. I edited the post at the end to update it, because he apparently scammed someone else on the Neo-Geo.com forums. In other words, this is not a one-time slip-up; he is making a pattern of taking people's money and then not shipping the goods.

I also posted here because Gannon PM'ed me and told me that this is the proper place to report such matters.

Bibliophile is a great buyer. Payed the money for my Wii very quickly and was kind enough to let me ship a little late since I was out of town.

RE: DAVID KAPLISH (Dkap01[AT]pacbell.net) is a scammer, BEWARE!

@ Bibliophile and the rest of this fine modding community:

I got burned by this guy (Dkap01) for $300. in January (2008).
I ordered an N64 portable late December 2007 for $300., -Dkap01 emailed pics of the project and promised to ship the first week of January 2008.
Despite numerous emails after my payment was posted, I received no response for 4 weeks and finally filed with Paypal, escalated, and won the case due to lack of response from the seller.
However, Paypal failed to reimburse the $300., stating they are "in the process of recovering the funds" and that the seller "has no available balance" to recover the funds from.
Lesson learned, if you pay a seller using Paypal, it's wise to use a credit card to fund the purchase. I had used my checking acct., thus Paypal will do nothing to reimburse my loss.
After tracing his IP's and contacting his ISP, I contacted the Ventura police department to file an electronic fraud complaint, as well as IC3 to assist in getting this crook brought to justice.
Approximately 5 days ago, his ebay account: (Dkap01) went offline.

This is the most recent public contact information for Dkap01:

They've already received several complaints about Mr. Kaplish, -the more complaints they receive, the closer we are to bringing down his website, which has been the launch-pad for many of his recent scams.

Palmertech- Great person to deal with. I bought/traded some stuff with him, and he was very reasonable, both during the negotiations, and with trusting a new person. I would be happy to deal with him again.

EDITED because I'm an idiot. lol

I think its cause you probably mentioned something about your BF? (I'm not sure if "BF" stands for boyfriend, or best friend...:? )

Oh dang! Actually, it was the name that confused me. My sister's best friend is named Palmer. I actually looked at your profile before I posted that, trying to make sure, but it doesn't say.

I'll go back and edit it.

I suppose it's about time I posted my good seller/buyer list:

Awesome sellers:
vomitsaw - hooked me up with some multi-control switches
Turbo Tax 1.0 - we've actually just traded stuff, but he's great. I think I might have bought a battery from him back in the day...
bacteria - great guy, is sending me a couple of SNES games

Fantastic buyers:
schmellyfart - this guy's screen name may be odd, but he paid quickly and was quick with correspondence. He bought the first SNESp I made.
Jim011991 - paid quickly, great communication
dragonball345 - paid quickly when settled on payment method, great communication throughout transaction
-=FamilyGuy=- - needed to have payment from account cleared first, but great communication and payment went through. He was totally fine with waiting until payment cleared before I shipped, and that speaks volumes.
Loyalist Revolt - somewhat slow on payment and communication, but it all worked out. I'd do business again with him for sure.

And last but not least: jperryss - if this guy is selling or buying, I highly recommend him. He's great!

That's it for now. Sorry if I forgot anyone.
