exactly. I'm not sure why there's not a huge amount of interest building for this project. This is the first time something like this has been proposed for primetime customers, and if it works as well as we're all hoping, it may suggest that all the 10+ years of progress into software-based emulation may have been going down a dead end path.
I couldn't agree with you more Reaperman. This project should be HUGE. Glad we're one of the first ones on the bandwagon!!

Will it be able to play Snes games? Or Gameboy games?

Yes I redesigned the case and it looks like the picture Reaper shows. It's now basically the size of an Altoids tin, though it's going to be a pain to get all the jacks and components to fit.

according to the admin at the gameport forum, the hardware will be quite capable of emulating both of those systems, however it is beyond the scope of the project at release. It will probably need a homebrewer, and from what I gather gameport is going to be designed to be as easy to dev for as possible.

while gameport will be able to go 65816 systems (snes, appleIIgs) it will not easily handle the 68000 based systems. That chip is simply too complex for the fpga, at least without some massive trickery.

why wait? even with what it currently does (coleco, intellivision, 2600 odyssey2) $50-75 is a bargain, especially hearing the altoids tin size. Previously I had no clue how small the thing was.

then you add in the three planned 'killer apps:'
Atari 800
Commodore 64
Nintendo Entertainment System

It's hard not to see me buying quite a few of these.

I'm not that retro, the NES is tempting, but since I still own one theres little point.

Theres a panic over at the Gameport site in the forums. Seems like the administrator doesn't have anything to say in whats going on over there. Why is the Gameport and its people on the down-low so much you figure? You'd think that unless this project is a no go, you'd want to generate as much hype as possible. Not letting the devoted followers know anything if the project is still a go isn't helping anything. Even a site update would be cool. Does anybody know if Ben is involved any further than just the design of the case?
