Dishwasher vs. Work Area...Dishwasher wins.

Post by bassvocal »

This Stinks!

I'd been starting some decent work on a portable in my spare time and things were moving along well until yesterday. The night before, I had started the dishwasher before heading to bed. It starting leaking. Unfortunately, my workbench is directly below the kitchen.

Lives taken by the accused:
  • 1 SuperJoy III NOAC
    1 Hip Gear Screen Pad
    3+ NES controllers
    1 Game boy original
    Countless Sketches/Schematics
    Various electronic components
Sorry, no pix - thought of it only after cleaning up the area.

Lucky for me, I had just moved my BenHeck "Hacking Video Game Consoles" book out of that area earlier that evening, so that's Something...

My ATARI parts were spared, and I should be able to get building on some new controllers soon. Now I just have to start finding parts again before working on a portable some more.

I bet the gameboy can be fixed. Those are tough as lead.

Well, the plastic case is fine, but the whole thing was taken apart at the time. A soaking wet MB is not something I'm going to try to save.

If these "components" are just things like resistors and ceramic capacitors they should be fine.

The Game Boy should survive if you haven't applied power to it while it was wet. (Remember those things were designed to survive dunks in Hi-C and chocolate milk...)

NES controllers are pretty resilient, they might still work.

Sketches / schematics: If they're still legible they aren't a total loss...

Superjoy: I don't know about this one. It might be dead. Try soaking it in rubbing alcohol. It should displace the water and let you pull the board out.

Screen pad: Disconnect the circuit board and give it the alcohol treatment.

Just make sure you let everything dry completely before you apply power.

The gameboy can be saved. I seen videos on a "Gulf War Gameboy" where the system was bombed by napalm. The case was burnt, but the system still works.

I also have saved a mobile phone and a modem from watery doom. Just don't apply power while they dry in the sun.

i had a i730 nextel phone

it went through the wash on atleast 6 occasions and through the dryer on atleast 3.

i dropped it off a telephone pole about 20-25 feet onto packed dirt.

i could not kill that phone.

finally dropped it off my balcony at my apt and the screen cracked and the mic broke.

a guy at my work ran over his phone on accident with his work van (an i530) it was in 2 pieces screen busted and battery leaking. popped a different battery in it, it still made calls...

Yeah, I have a brand new HP laptop which I poured ROOT BEER inside of (accidentally of course) and after drying out and a little clean up to remove the stickyness it works just fine. I'm wiring to you with the same computer.

My brother had forgotten his USB Pendrive in his trousers and it got washed. Well, after some days of drying it worked without frying the Pendirve itself and the PC´s MoBo.

I traded an extra Nes back in the day for an Original Gameboy. Buddy told me that he had left it outside, under an RV, over a Minnesota winter (like 9 months). I got the thing from him and popped in a fresh set of batteries and it worked fine. He was so pissed because he though he grifted me good for a beat up Nes.

 Now I used to have a Sharp GX10i. First damage was a scratch, then many drops, submerged underwater two times, countless drops.

I upgraded to a Sony Ericsson K700i. The old phone still not giving up.
