Um....Can I get a Check (list) please?
Hi, I'm pretty new to the whole Benheck world of portabalization. (I've been reading his furom and watching his site about two months now. I decided to join a few days ago)
Anyway, I am seriously considering making a portable. I've been taking stuff apart and putting it back together since I could hold a screwdriver, but never before had I thought of altering or combinging something like a Video game console.
I have a few old systems that I am considering altering. but i dont have any of the right models.
I have:
2nd Genesis, (Sega CD and 32X.)
1st Super NES,
Atari Jaguar--(which I'm not sure even works...)
Sega Saturn
and the main problem I am facing is this...
WHAT ALL DO I NEED to even begin?
I've searched the furoms for atleast an hour every day and I can find a checklist for all the systems that are being portabalized.
I know that I will need a screen (PS1 is voted easiest to use and most popular, it seems)
A battery pack, and I got a suggestion for that already. (Thanks Vskid and Felino!)
But I dont have a lot of money to waste but I am willing to try this out. Even if I wind up losing everything by really just screwing it up. But I need to know what MATERIALS I will need.
I've put together a small list using common sense in the very beginning, and so far my list isn't to far from home when compared to whats posted here.
Soldering Iron
Screwdrivers, Large flat (x2) and small Phillips (x2-3)
Case materials***
Battery
Screen
Adapter (I want my portable capable of running off of both is that common or not? Good Idea? Bad? I dont know--HELP?...)
Is there a standard checklist for the different systems or something?
I'm sorry if I somehow missed the sticky or whatnot, but I would really like it if someone could give me a general checklist for NES and SNES modding I would be VERY grateful!!
Thanks a lot.

Ooooh, You're gonna get yelled at! The last two times I told people stuff was in the wrong place, I got screamed at for "backseat moderating", so now I just leave threads in the wrong place alone. Heck, there are 2 threads in TQ&A that don't belong there!bacteria wrote:1) the information is in the forum posts
2) this is the N64 section, not relevant to your queries - please post in the relevant forum for NES and SNES, etc.
Thats because half (at least) of your posts have to do with either correcting "grammar" (but really you're correcting spelling most of the timebenol wrote:Ooooh, You're gonna get yelled at! I dont need FOUR replies telling me its the wrong forum. Only one.
If you aren't gonna be helpful then just be silent, please!

please, if you guys cant help the dude just dont post.
seriously I can not go into a thread without reading some smartass post dealing with grammar or posting in the wrong board. let the mods deal with that sh*t and please stop cluttering the forums with completely useless posts its really getting to become bad here
@Chibminshiy
welcome it sounds like you aren't sure what you want to build and you really have no idea what to do at this point (correct me if I'm wrong) I would really recommend picking up Ben's book reading through most of it and attempting to build your own type of NESp following through his guide but kind of giving it your own feel. that is how I started off and I think I have gotten pretty decent
. His guide will set you up with a parts list and even has a section on building your own version of a NESp.
It also uses the original NES mobo
EDIT: sorry i thought you had an NES
you could do the same for the SNES it will be slightly different but you can always post pics and ask questions if you needed help. The power video and controller are still all the same also.
and I still strongly recommend the book it will give you a pretty good understanding of how to portabalize in general

Thanks. Yeah, I'm working on getting the book. The problem is getting something off the I-net. My parents dont trust it enough to spend money over it *grumbles: backwards old geezers* And I cant find one in a store locally (I hate this backwater town!!!)Turbo Tax 1.0 wrote: @Chibminshiy

And I cant use paypal cuz I'm not 18 yet. I'm trying hard to get a copy of the book. (I have an e-friend who has an autographed copy of the book) *grumbles: Lucky bastard!!!*
Anyway, I'm trying to pull together the parts for a N64p while practicing on the systems that I do have.
Thanks.
