29-in-1 NOAC, can it accept real NES carts?

Post by 11up »

I found this NOAC today at a thrift shop. It's case looks nicer than that Panasonic clone I trashed. I don't quite know who made it, but when I opened it up, I saw this chip on there that said it was from Korea.
It also had this weird three-ringed head-phone jack on it, I assumed it went to a converter box and then into the TV, so I had to rig A/V jacks to the board so it would work on my TV's A/V jacks.
The games inside it are okay, although the only ones that caught my attention was the obvious SMB clone called Pikachu, a DK junior clone called 'Save Kuku', and some NES-DK3 clone. The only thing it was different from the originals were the object tiles.   Anyway, here are the pics of it working and it's guts.

Somehow I managed to get a clear shot of the only IC that wasn't a glob top, which I believe contains all of the roms inside it. (Considering it's size compared to the other ICs on the PCB) This could mean I can attach a NES cart slot to it, :) at least that's what I hope. If this one isn't any good, I'll HAVE to get a Super Joy NOAC or score a really cheap NES if I'm lucky.
So, what do you guys think? Should I trash it or find some pinouts and make it portable?

in theory yes. see if you can find a datasheet on that rom first (if it is one) then it's likely only to use the pins it need and go trough some crappy mapper for the multigame first so in practice. NO

I don't understand what you're saying. :? If you think I intend to keep that turd SMB knock off and have a cart slot, that's a no. I just want to attach a cart slot to play real NES carts, and maybe remove the chip entirely while I'm at it(or just add 5+volts to a certain pin and disable the built in games.) Or are you saying I need to attach it to certain pins, so it would work for certain games with mappers similar to the clones roms? I'm sorry, but I don't get what you are trying to saying here. :?

it's just not practical. The mapper prob is weird (is it only one or multiple games? aka does it have a menu)

Yes, there are multiple games, 29 in fact! (What kinda NOAC doesn't have multiple games anyway?)...and it's menu is two pages long! I want to disable the built in games entirely and rig a cart slot to it. Like Ben Heck and every other member on this board has to their NOACs. And this isn't a more recent NOAC looking at at all the crap on the PCBs, so it HAS to be old enough to support REAL NES mappers. So is it practical? I'm confused right now...

IT'S JUST NOT PRACTICAL. ben and other people used a noac with cart slot (famicom) already on them and those have a disable function.

If it really is old, it probably only supports mapper 0.

No, it isn't practical. Try to find one with a cart slot already on it (whether it is 60 or 72 pin).

I appreciate the help tom61 and jeroen. I thought it would be possible to attach a cart slot to the chip since the same can be done to a GOAC. I should have looked MUCH more into these NOACs before spamming this forum with crap useless crap clones  . I'm terribly sorry, I understand now. I should have known if only I hadn't completely skimmed over the part about cart slots in Ben Heck's NESp article, now looking back. I'll go sift around for a Super Joy III or something like that in this case. Thanks for getting it through to me guys, I appreciate all of your help.

Guilt Tripped.

It's not spam, someone searching the forums a couple years from now might find the same NES knock-off and find this information useful.
