Gamecube Laptop

Post by The Maggot »

Hello everyone!

Im new here at benhecks forum. Today i used paint (awesome, huh?! :P) to show you guys my idea about a GC Laptop. :P

Image
The overwiev. The "so called" M3 can play gba games from a sd or cf memory card.

Image
The left side and the back of the unit. I think i don't add batteries, it takes a lot of space and they are heavy. And expensive.

Please comment what you think.

Yes, when i make some progress i post in this thread.

I don't know exactly yet, but i think about the 9.2" xbox 360 screen. Maybe i use a vga screen BTW.

Yes, a chip called Duo Q :)

I first need a cube :p and the gc gameboy player and the screen, after that i can begin with the work.

Got any better parts to recommend?

If it was me, i'd leave out the GB Player. IMO, it would be a waste of space and I wouldn't use it much. But I guess its up to you, since you will be the one actually using it. Just my two cents...

EDIT: Unless of course you are wanting to use something like the R4DS or M3 or similar device, in which case it IS a good idea.

I know that some company(forget the name) made a GBA player that plugs into one of the memory card ports. So if space is what you want to save, then go with that.

It looks good in theory... hmm... ah, I think everyone should hold off on their GC laptops until we get this CF card thing finished... so you can buy the boards from us... for money... 'cause we all like money. :P

You aren't likely gonna sell any of my boards. If you wanna make profit make your own one.

Hah! Your boards are nice, but I ALWAYS make my own boards even if the one supplied is perfect. Besides, I'm saying "us". You know, the group. Can't we split the profit? :) Err... that might get complicated... well, we'll cross that road when/if we come to it. First we have to get the d@mn thing working.

Then why you haven't made your own yet? That should be made in 2 days, why you haven't done it in that much time?

And if I sell them, I would only ask for the components price and the time used on soldering everything. And a 1$ donation.

Of course, you can get my CAD files, change the name and sell them for 150$, but that would be a bit dirty, wouldn't it?

Maggot, good luck with your portable. It looks awesome, what are you gonna use for the case? Are you gonna put a keyboard? For GCLinux, PSO, etc...

Heh... making the PCBs isn't in any way the hard part, for me. Oh, plus I'm broke. :P

Dude, designing PCB boards is free. Suposing that you have a computer with Windows or any UNIX based OS (what I suppose so).

And, which harder parts are apart from making the PCB?

I think, flash an EEPROM, flashing the FPGA, and oven soldering isn't that hard.

Thanks! :)
Im not sure yet. It depends on which screen i use.
No, im not really sure what gclinux is, but what i get from google it's some kind of media center device for the cube, am i right?
Is there any gc howebrew or games that can use a keyboard? The only game i know is phantasy star.

Maybe a keyboard wasn't a bad idea. Thanks! :)
