Windows Vista Activation: What can I do?
I recently brought a copy of the wonderful Windows Vista and install it on two machine: on mine and on the family computer. But, because of that, I cannot activate windows because they say I'm a hacker who try to get free copy of Vista. I've called Microsoft (Why they don't have bots like every one else, the person I got has a strong english accent and it's hard to understand them, on a phone, for a french speaker) But, after I've tell him the 54 number, she said I cannot activate it because it's was installed on two computer. Internet dosen't like me too and I have 4 days before the activation periods end, after that, it's Game Over.
I need help to find a way to register or to hack Windows, I know the SkipRearm trick, but I need help on it. So, can I have some help please? It will be really apreciate. (Or appretiate, aprechiate... Whatever...)

naturally you'll have to buy another windows license. once license, one computer, correct?
I'm sure there are "ways" aroound it, but they're never worth the trouble. and every service pack that comes out will be causing you headaches trying to get your hacked copy up to date.
as much as other people will argue, I say that Windows would be an incredible value at twice its price given all it's easy to use features and bundled applications.

"Appreciate"
Why bother with Vista? The OS might look a bit prettier but not all the popular hardware devices support it, there are no real advantages of using Vista over XP - and XP "might allow you to do what you want". Look at
sites if you must. The important thing are the applications you run not the OS itself. It's like going to an expensive restaurant because they use gold plated rimmed edges on their fine china plates without choosing the restaurant for the food; and anyway, once the plate has food on it you are pressed to see, or be bothered with, the plate. Don't get sucked into hype! By the same token, many people prefer to play SNES games than the latest Playstation 3 titles; same principle (quality over hype).
Vista is very far from "incredible value". You can buy XP as OEM from reputable places for low cost now - that is far better value- and, unlike Vista, it runs everything (except DOS of course!).

Yes, until they fix some issues, proper drivers get written, and hardware catches up there is no point in running Vista aside from the shiny interface.
Reinstall XP on one of the computers and be happy (save yourself a couple hundred dollars and several gigs of drive space), or go buy an additional Vista license.

What bugs are you guys experiencing with Vista?
I've been running it at home and actually have used it quite extensively in the last couple of weeks with no issues to speak of.
It actually runs better than my previous XP install although admittedly I had not reloaded that machine in a few years.
Keep in mind I'm running it on a P4 with 1GB of RAM and a 128MB video card.
The closest thing to an issue I had is that it didn't automatically install the driver for my sound card. I grabbed the driver off of my old XP hard drive and it works just fine.

I remember reading that there is a way to extend the activation period. I believe it involves editing the registry, and by doing so you can use Vista for like 120 days without activating it. Do a search on Google to see if you can find it, if anything it'll give you a little more time.

I tried something really n00bish, and it seen to work, for now. I set the clock to 29 April. Now the activation stay to 4 days everydays, but I don't know if it will still run, I have to wait and see. If it don't work I just have to do like the first time, ré-install Vista over (Actually, I prefer MUCH more Vista than XP. Except the activation problem, I had no bug, no BlueScreen,a few drivers problem, but quickly solve and much more no problems.)

But On topic:

First, I tried vista about a month after it came out. MANY problems like unsopported video/sound cards, annoying little things like you can not delete a program before you delete the shortcut to it, or will keep trying to fix the problem and won't delete. It also had a lot of small useless processes going on that I didn't need all the time, but didn't want to stop them from the start up. I couldn't play any of my games because my graphics card was not yet supported. Many freezes as well.
The second time was only for about a day a few months later, because I was reformating my computer and forgot to put my internet driver on disk for XP, so I went into Vista (it has the autodetect like many Unix/Linux OSes have) and decided to give that a try for a while, and if worse come to worse, just get the driver. I tried playing Zdaemon (Doom 2 Online) and noticed that it was pixelated a lot differently (bigger) when I tried to play. This greatly influenced the second removal of it. It was also still freezing performing simple tasks suck as starting up media/closing it.
Then came the third try which happened maybe a week ago. A lot of the original bugs were fixed, but still no ZDaemon. I was dual-booting Vista and XP though at this time, so I could switch to XP when I wanted to play. The main reason for this delete was still the constant freezing. My favorite was when it froze in the shutdown tab of the task list.
So I wait another year inside My XP Pro.

I have a vista test box for trying out installs of a card reader software I support. It works perfectly well for me, but a couple times a week I get some retard with what seems to be a permissions issue calling up, but I'll be damned if I can duplicate it. (says they don't have permission to install but they obviously do) They all seem to be new machines vs. upgrades, but that's probably not a factor since I doubt anybody I talk to could sucessfully watch the windows install bar anyway.jones wrote: What bugs are you guys experiencing with Vista?
other than that, vista seems to run fine--not that I use it much, but I suppose I could.
If you think vista has problems, try comparing it to a lot of previous windows launches, or even the bleeding edge of linux. I think it's just fine as is, but then again I don't do much with it.
