Xbox question.
I am thinking of buying an Xbox. i would like to know for sure if the Xbox can run Linux. And if it can can you do a sort of dual boot thing where at boot up i can chose to run Linux on one boot up and on the next boot up just run like a normal Xbox. And also can i replace the Xbox hard drive whit a standard ide hard drive. i would like to know this because if i buy the Xbox i would like to mod it a bit.
Thanks in advance.

I really dont know, I Dont know very much on xbox modding, well the details at least.
try www.xbox-scene.com
Check the tutorials, if you cant find what you want in the tutorials, check the forums and ask there, they have probably a lot more experiance in modding Xboxs than most people here.

Yes you can---I already do
I currently use a softmodded xbox and can still play regular games. Since I didn't want to completely install linux, I've been running DSL Linux as a LiveCD. Images are available on www.xbox-linux.org
This statement is completely wrong.Jongamer wrote:Yes to Everything.
But Dualboot will require a Modchip that has 2 bios Banks or somthing to that Effect.
If you use the GentooX distribution, it allows you to create a file for linux (rootfs and swap) on either the E or F partition. Then it makes a XBE for you to launch in the E partition. You can now "dual boot" both Linux and still have the Xbox for regular playing.
If you have a ghosted dashboard (meaning it is softmoded) or if it has a modified retail BIOS, then Xbox Live will ban your EEPROM, and you can never connect to the Live service again, without swapping the EEPROM.timmeh87 wrote:most of what makes it a 'normal' xbox is in the BIOS, not on the hard drive, for example, xbox live will permaban you based on your BIOS (whether its official or not).
So if you get banned and sell your Xbox, the next owner is screwed?vb_master wrote:If you have a ghosted dashboard (meaning it is softmoded) or if it has a modified retail BIOS, then Xbox Live will ban your EEPROM, and you can never connect to the Live service again, without swapping the EEPROM.timmeh87 wrote:most of what makes it a 'normal' xbox is in the BIOS, not on the hard drive, for example, xbox live will permaban you based on your BIOS (whether its official or not).
