GameCube Save Storage

Post by Monsterbox »

So, I've searched in a bunch of different ways and can't find any sort of answer to this question. I am working on the specs for a GameCube mod and I want to set it up so that it will have lots of space for storing games, but no accessible port for cards.

Basically, I want an internal drive for the GameCube. Most saves are tiny, so I'm not too concerned with size, just big enough to where I probably wouldn't ever need to get at it on the fly. Would this be something I could accomplish by hardwiring a CF card or something similar to the Memory Card ports?

Any sort of information that would help with this would be appreciated. Please don't flame me, I promise I searched high and low.

Might HAve to find a Pinout of the GC memory Card, and you may have to wire the CF cart to a Regular GC memory card, and then Wire that to the GC Memory card port.

CF no, but SD, yes..

The only downfall is that games don't support SD, but it can be supported with homebrew.

Would just putting a couple of 1019s in the slots and just leaving them there be the best option then? Considering I don't ever plan on planning Madden or any of the big-file sports games on it, I'm sure it'd be everything I'd need. I just though throwing a couple GB card of some sort at it to ensure I'd never need more might be worth the time. But if the trouble would outweigh the benefit in the end, maybe just securing a couple standard Memory Cards would be best.

You mean stack them in parallel in one port?

I wouldn't recommend it.. Voltage requirements would be through the roof, plus the GC sends a signal to the memory card to see if it's plugged in, and that doesn't duplicate like voltage, so you'd need a chip or to duplicate X loads of repeat signals for each memory card, and even then, I think you'll have read write issues..

Overall, not doable, but Datel sell a USB storage backup memory card.

If you are going to making or modding your case I would relocte the memory card slots back in the system and provide a door that way the cards will be in there but not stick out or be in the way. I would just put one card of the biggest size you can find in each slot and you should never need to replace them unless you get about 200 games  . This should work.
