Duct Tape?

Post by Unidentified Assilant »

Does Duct Tape work like solder? For example... if I duct tape 2 wires together like a GND and a GND wire from a PS/2 and 9-pin connector, would it work? and does masking tape work too?

Duct tape can be used if you dont have any electrical tape. Masking, scotch or anything that isnt vinle or flame retardent shouldnt be sured. Also never substitute taping wires for solding them, use the tape to secure them together after you solder and so that they dont come apart or touch something and short out.

You mean scotch tape, that clear plastic kind that is used with anything paper? That stuff would be terrable, you'd have to use a lot of tape and even then that stuff will melt in a second if you get a short.

Well if all you have is scotch tape, take what like 2-3 pounds (thats your currentsy right) and buy a roll or two of electrical tape. Its much better than duct or any other, this is the kind you should use.

For cheap electrical tape check out pound stores, you can usually get a pack of 6 rolls for about a quid.

yea a soldering iron is a good thing to have becuase without one you cant soleder components to boards and duct tape definetly cant do that also youll be much more happy knowing that you soldered something together rather than ducttaped it. Becuase if you ductape something inside a ps2 and it comes undone then you have to take it apart agian to fix it youll probably never have to do that with solder.
