GP64 Progress thread

Post by Gangsta Pigeon »

Well, I embarked on this project a while back, and hoped to post it up here after I completed it, but unfortunately I've encountered some problems. I did all the soldering last night, and it all seemed alright. Both the screen and the N64 power on as they should, but there is no audio or video coming out of the screen. I'm using a regular PSOne 1st Party LCD screen. I have replaced the Jumper Pak, as I was under the assumption that was the problem. I made this conclusion based on the fact that when I would flip on the N64, the screen would flicker a tad, and the audio would do a little "hop" is the best way I could describe it. Here's a pic if it helps (sorry, didnt have a chance to get out my real camera, better pics later):

So the good news is, it powers on and everything. The bad news is, the A/V doesnt work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. GP64 = Gangsta Pigeon 64

EDIT: I'm using a 7.2v 4400 mAh NiMH battery, if that helps at all. If there are any other specifics you'd like to know, just ask.

I just tried the 7805 to the 5V located in the sticky you directed me to, but It didnt seem to help. Now when it says to be sure to tie the N64's ground to the screens ground, I'm not exactly sure what that means. Could someone be kind enough to elaborate?

The black wire in this pic is ground. Make sure you have it, that's what tying the grounds together means.

Oh right, I have that wired as well. The way it was written confused me a bit lol. Could it have anything to do to the way I wired it? I took the labled wires that were running from slot 2 of the screen and cut them off from the board containing the ports. I then soldered a wire to that and then soldered those new wires to the N64 board. Could this have had any effect on the connections?

Update: Figured out what the problem was. After testing the N64 with its AV cable, it worked. So the problem is obviously the screen. I'm purchasing a replacement ASAP. Then all I have to do is finish making my case and It'll be completed. Expect more progress in about a week or two.

No, I left them connected to the ribbon cable so i could use their headphones. Could this make a difference in the video?
