it depends on what the files are. If it is an application, such as photoshop, Word, or Doom 3, you may be able to depending on the software you have (usually it's slower and the software that lets you do it isn't perfect yet, in fact I still have to get it working) Also, they have free clones of Microsoft Office that you can use, called Open Office. They run and can save .doc files

If it's a document, such as an MP3, jpg, or .html, it should work, though probably with an application other than what is used in Windows (though there is a Linux version of Firefox)

Wow, an AMAZING topic. Fine, here's my wallpaper:

Image

As you can see I'm a huge Kate Beckinsale and Air Supply fan ;)

And my computers:

Amazing 1.5 gig Athlon thing with 320 gigs of HD and 1 giga RAM (Pro-Gear Spec) Used to make PW.

Lightning-fast AMD 64 bit 3000 series laptop (Used to write book and CNC cut things)

333mHz MGDp, with 16 meg Voodoo card (Used to loop movie, now sits in closet)

33mHz IBM Stinkpad. Used to take up room on top of my filing cabinet.

oh wait there's more:

Atari 800 Computer (1979 version)

Atari XE, being made portable

and of course

Tandy Pocket Computer PC-7 (still works and sits atop my PS2)

I think that's it...

To use the onscreen calendar thing, look up either SuperKaramba or Gkrellm, you should find what you are looking for in one of those.
