List of Famiclones/NOACs

Post by DK »

I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of NOACs,

A:So it makes them easy to identify and know what they have and don't have (Cart Slot ect)

and B:So we can sound nerdy.

Type 1: Controller based.

These look like video game controllers, normally N64 one's or generic controllers. Many of these have the games on a built in chip, not too good for portabalization as you can only play the games on the chip, but some have a famicon style cart slot aswell, meaning with a family converter, you can play NES games on them.

These have the problem of being illegle as even tho the patent on the NES's hardware has ran out, the games included in the NOAC still have the copyright, so cannot be distributed.

Examples include

GunBoy(Built in lightgun and cart slot)
Super Joy
Mega Joy

As in general these consoles are small, they are the best choice for handheld consoles.

Type 2: Console based

As you can guess, these look like games consoles. Many look like released consoles, such as Playstations, Megadrives (Genisis), Snes's and N64's. Nearly all of these have a cart slot, some even having NES style slots (Retrocon), meaning the Family Converter is not required.

The games can come in the form of carts or some have built in games.

Examples include

Polystation(looks like a PS1)
Yobo(Has a 72 pin connector)(Minor compatibility issuse, CASTLEVANIA 3)
Blaze Retrocon(Outputs NTSC and PAL and has 72 pin connector)Image

If anybody can give information on individual NOACS, please add them. Pictures would look nice too :D

Stickify pleese

Sweet, I was wondering whether my GunBoy was a noac. I might use that for my next portable. I will get some pics, if I remember to take my camera next time I got to my dads (where it is).

92% of teens have moved on to rap.
If you are part of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your signature.

I have no idea. It didn't come with a manual, and I don't have a nes so I cannot try inserting a game.

I'd be guessing it's a famicon slot, but get a family converter (ask Gannon) and it'll play NES games.
