Lets all Switch to Hydrogen

Ok I know this is all going to sound veary "red necky" but, dont go with electric cars... Its just that they dont sound cool. and really if you want a powerful car, well that makes you feel powerfull, the buzz of an electric car just isnt the way to go.
ahh. but opinions can change and facts can be faulty.

Well that was a very informed, objective, unbiased, coherent statement. By which I mean it wasn't. Come on, you've just told the world you care more about sounding cool and powerful as opposed to saving a slowly failing planet. It's not about the car, it's about the driver and you, my friend, are a sad little driver.sameguy wrote:Ok I know this is all going to sound veary "red necky" but, dont go with electric cars... Wow! Insensitive and didn't contribute to the discussion. At least you had proper grammar and spelling or you would have struck out...atari2600a wrote:I've always wondered why rednecks where always poor!

I don't think the big focus should be on cars yet, it should be on producing electricity. Most of the electricity is produced by coal and other fossil fueled plants. If we were to switch to electric cars we would only be moving the source of pollution and fuel consumption. It takes a lot of electricity to produce hydrogen so until we build a lot more nuclear power plants that won't help anything either. It takes a lot more ethonol to do the same amount of work that normal gasoline does, it also takes a lot more energy to produce. So for now gasoline is the most viable and efficient fuel source for cars. Focus on some better ways of producing electricity, then worry about cars. The only reason most people are blaming cars is because they are the ones putting fuel in them, they don't realize how much fuel goes into making electricity, they see it as something that just comes out of the wall.

Solar panels are becoming more efficient; within the next 10 years, I can see having a solar panel on your roof to charge a car a possibility.

There is another very expensive factor you may not be considering in electric cars, batteries. The batteries needed to power cars are very expensive and have a relatively short life span. They must be replaced periodically and the stuff inside these batteries is not environmentally friendly and properly disposing of it is expensive. Small battery technology may have come a long way, but large, high amperage batteries are still pretty primative, last time I checked they were still using lead-acid.

Guys the whole reason that people want to make Hydrogen and fuel-cells is to power electric cars. The reason they want that is simply you can recharge a car with fuel-cells using Hydrogen fast then if you have batteries.
Hybrids are kind of the go-between for this conversion. For now we can use gasoline powered engines with electric motors. Then we can move to Ethanol for the fuel for the engine. The nice thing about Ethanol is that you can use that in fuel-cells, so until a system of producing and containing Hydrogen is cheap they can use Ethanol.
This system is likely what the auto indestry is aiming to do.

I am a geek.
check this out, somebody made their car run on water.

i'm just curious how he got the electricity to make HHO to burn. maybe he used a battery, mabye a generator powered by the engine but that seems a bit too much like perpetual energy to be true. in my chemestry clas, we blew up bubbles of HHO that were about the size of 1 marshmallow and it was so powerful it nearly shook my desk

Holy crap, I want to know how he did that! It seems impossible to make water into a gas and back into water with energy to spare without defying physics. If it wasn't on a news channel I don't think I'd believe it.daguuy wrote:check this out, somebody made their car run on water.

I doubt it was HHO. More likely H2 (forgive me, I don't know subscript buttons).daguuy wrote:check this out, somebody made their car run on water.

I checked and the video is most likely a hoax.daguuy wrote:check this out, somebody made their car run on water.

Ok well I see we are all on different pages here. mostly all of you against me, but that is because I have a conection with the classic cars, so dont worry about it, but I will leave on this, electric cars and hydrogen cars, where do you think the engergy comes from that produces those other tyeps of fules, ill give you a hint , burning fossil fules, acctually that was more of an answer. But anyways, ill leave you on that note.
