Detachable Largescreen for iPod

Post by Gunnex »

I got this random idea. What you need is a 5G iPod, a PSOne Screen, and some form of dock.
Basically, you take +5V and GND from the PSOne screen and send the AV signal from the iPod to the screen. The pinout is here

Just something I was thinking about, would be great for video!

Sorry, but there is no actual AV point on the IPOD, it's all digitally coded, nice try though.

Not completely true, there is an option A/V plug for ipod videos that goes in the headphone port. It basically is just a little longer, and has an extra ring for the video.

Damnit Skyone, you better me in everything?! Well, apparently now it may be possible. Although worthless, possible. Connect video/audio from said points, I just hope they aren't nano sizd.

If you just take a standard AV out cable from a Digital camcorder and plug it into your ipod video and your tv it works. You just have to switch the red and the yellow. (Their way of trying to get you to buy a special cable)

It's been done too.

It's not longer, but the last ring is divided for the third signal. See below…

@HomicidalBarber: I thought the same thing (proprietary cable…), but facts point towards a different reason: the jack is usually used for headphones, so the two audio signals have to be at the top two conductors. See, digital camcorders use the top two for left audio (which carries the monaural signal if there is no right audio) and video, so you can use a mono cable (y'know, standard stereo miniplug to two RCA) in place of a three-conductor one. Problem is, if you use this on an iPod, you usually want two channels of music, not video and audio. Yes, it's inflexible, but it's more practical.

If the cables weren't like this, you couldn't use the monaural ones that came with digital still cameras with camcorders, nor could you get stereo audio out of an iPod.

That just uses your Ipod as a hard drive, not enlarge the iPod screen.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

Sort of. It does use your hard drive as a source for video, but it puts it on a large screen too. No, it doesn't use the built-in video player, but it does give you a larger screen to watch stuff on.

You COULD build a version that simply gives you a larger screen, but the video an iPod can support is limited to a small size, so you wouldn't benefit from a much larger screen. With NYKO's movie player, you could actually use 640x480 video.
