just go to radio shack and pick up a small low wattage soldering iron for intricate work, and then a larger 40 watt for larger jobs...

as for AA's or D's...

i reccomend C's, i went to radio shack and was lookin at the Ni-MH recharceables, and the C's and D's both have 3000 mAh, at 1.2 V.... the only difference is the price, theres about a 4 dollar price difference, the C's are more expensive. but its all under 20 bux, soo...

I just used the "Cold Heat" soldering gun on my NESp and it melted the white plastic around the tip. It's now dead. It's good for real quick solder joints but not for desoldering which is what I used it for. It can't stay hot for too long or it will melt. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.

I've now been using a selectable 15/30 watt iron from Radio Shack that is working just fine. It does, however, take some time to heat up.

So, the Cold Heat soldering gun is not recommended.

I was bored. What do you mean by "bump it"? And, I've never been to this site and I'm just building my 1st portable. So, this forum is new to me. There's probably a million people out there like me who is starting there 1st portable so I see a question I can answer - and - answered it. Sorry, didn't mean to get you all flustered.

My god ancient thread!

If you would have used search, then you wold have known there is an 8 watt weller for $30 that was recommended by skyone!

"Bump" is a term used to revive a thread because when a new post is added it is "bumped" to the top of the list
