Big or small SNES?

From what I've heard, Ben's book is a good place to start...

What part are you stuck at? Just... the start? What supplies do you have?

Well the case is mostly empty space, so you could desolder the EXP & controller ports on the PCB, take out the eject button thingie, cut some holes on the bottom of the case for buttons & screen, screw a controller PCB (W/ buttons & rubber contacts) to the bottom (aligned to the holes you cut, of course), throw some rechargable batteries in there w/ some minor custom circuitry...& there's one right there!

Plus you'll have to cut out all the screw-thingies (the name of them slips my mind) that hold the case together out, & rise the mobo, so you'll have space of course...

You gotta get batteries, and then you need a screen, may I recommend a PSOne screen, or 5-inch Zenith screen (for PS2).

Once you got all that, you throw it together!

Basically any screen with video signal that can go into it will work but try to get a screen to make up for the size of the SNES itself. Also I reccomend at least a 2000maH Ni-mh battery for longer play time with out the cost of Li-ion.

...I smell n00b. :P

Well, don't worry about anything, I was just as (looking for a word) dimwitted as you when I started. You catch on quick. But before you read past this. Be sure you're dedicated to this, risking finance, your skin, and seeing a lot of green PCB, and are willing to handle sensitive equipment. I'm sorry if I scared you, but well, you gotta be dedicated to that to do this...I know I wasn't, but hey, we change.

First of all, you order your tools, like solder, a soldering iron, a desoldering iron (this is not just for mistakes, but you need to desolder off components on the motherboard), screwdrivers, and some/a tweezers/pliers, hot glue gun, and an X-Acto Knife, and it has to be that knife, for they're sharp enough for what you'll cut ( :P any penile jokes surrounding that will not get a cookie). If you have those tools, continue reading what the other people said. I'll give you a pseudo guide if you want...and just make a post if you're dedicated, and I'll make the guide for y ou, with parts list and everything.

I agree with demonofaj's list of necessary tools - you're going to need at least those tools if you want to do this with any sort of ease. Honestly, portabilizing an SNES is one of the easier projects out there, but it just takes experience to get used to working with these things and to be able to catch any mistakes along the way. Experience determines how long it takes to do this project, so try your hardest to learn whatever you can about electronics along the way.

I was the dumbest bump on a log when I started this... frequent the hacking part of the forums and that will change quickly. basically:
Connect the ground between the screen and system
You can Get a PSOne screen and power the SNES using the +5v output from the regulator in the screen.
The big SNES is stereo, so hook it up as such and use both original speakers.
short out the headphone left and the headphone right with the headphone switch for audio
Pinout information is in the sticky of the screen and snes forum.
Search before asking. =D
