Heh…
I guess you might call me "smart"…
One day, I walked into my guidance counselor's office (scheduling meeting for the next year), and she's there looking at my grades. First thing she says after greeting me is "how are your exam grades HIGHER than your quarter grades?"
Beyond that, I seem to be the only one in my honors chem class that actually understands most of the material. Class generally goes like this:
Teacher: Ok, now what is the answer to X?
Class:…
…
…
…
…
Me: *sigh* It's *insert answer here*
--five minutes later--
Teacher: So, what is the reduction equation?
Class:…
…
…
Teacher: C'mon, give (usbcd36) a break!
I kid you not, this happens almost every day. It's also not a symptom of 2° chem, since my friends in 9° say it happens then too.
Then there's the fact I'm taking AP computer science. I realized that I was somewhat proficient in it when people started asking me for advice when the teacher was helping others. Eventually, they began calling me DOS (the origin of which I prefer not to discuss), and it stuck (even the teacher calls me it now). Because the CS teacher is also the robotics team coach, some of the robotics team (mainly those who I did not know personally prior to joining) call me it as well. Don't mind it much though…
The only problem with this is that although I come off as somewhat intelligent, I am truly the "dumbest smart person" at my school. Examples include the mishap almost six years ago where I was placed into the lower level of math class (which consequently put me a few steps behind everyone else in math), my inability to write (creatively or in form) about something I don't truly care about, the three strikes I have against homework and its influence on our grades, and lack of interest in sports.
I have one more problem, but this is more subtle.
This explanation will be easier to understand if you know object-oriented Java.
Give me an easily described task, and I will usually be able to complete it.
Give me a task that consists of smaller tasks (that are not well described), and I will fumble around for awhile, and the job will be shabbily done, possibly incomplete.
I work on an object-oriented system. Tell me to write a method, and it's done. Tell me to write a program, and it will never exist.
I have the ability to make things work, but lack the string to tie them all together.
You judge: am I smart? Am I dumb? Somewhere in-between?
Edit: one other thing: I tend to find joy in the things others hate to do, and sometimes boredom in things others take joy in. What d'ya make of that?

It is just to see how you rank compared to others in percentile.
Utah has its own end of levels.

Actually I weent for like 2 months, then I went to school one day and my teacher was like "no you go here now" and pushed me in to a first grade class room, and I wasn't thinking "cool I'm in 1st grade" I was thinking "but I was just meeting some new friends" but now I think it's cool... sort of.

I.Q. rankings
Anyway, for people who care, I have an IQ of 162, I was thought to have ADD but I was proven to be far from it, I'm great in everything except french, and apparently I suffer from not trying to be social with people I don't feel any sort of realation to - as in like, they think I should be social to people who sit around going "DURRRRR XBOX" all day. Nah. Other then that they say socially I'm good, I just have to learn to be social with everyone instead of selecting. (I still say 99% of the world falls under this).
Oooh! Forgot to mention something as people are talking about misplacements and all. In grade 8 I was put in the slow class..the conversation with the teacher after 10 minutes went like this.
Teacher: Hey, how was your summer?
Me: Not too bad, It had its ups and its downs, but overall it was fun, I guess.
Teacher: So, what school were you in last year?
Me: < Insert My Gr 6/7 School Here >
Teacher: Really! So, why did you switch over here?
Me: Oh, they stopped offering gifted there, and If I was to be in normal classes, I thought I'd rather be closer to home.
<Teacher Pauses for about a minute and slowly walks away from class>
Teacher: Hey, we have a class for you...
<Goes on to explain>
Thank god, that class turned out to be advanced daycare. They were the class next to me, and in grade 8 to see kids drawing with crayons and putting the pictures on the wall is pretty sad
Needless to say, they quickly saw that it wouldn't have mattered where I was, I was bored to death and I passed by a millimetre, lol.

You're not alone, I can't stand most social interactions. With my better and more seletected friends though, I mostly chat about philosophy and conspiracy theories.
